About this listen

2022 Audible’s Best in Fantasy

The living cannot be allowed to infect the dead.

Adam Binder has lost what matters most to him. Having finally learned the true identity of the warlock preying on his family, what was supposed to be a final confrontation with the fiend instead became a trap that sent Adam’s beloved Vicente into the realm of the dead, where none living are meant to be.

Bound by debt, oath, and love, Adam blazes his own trail into the underworld to get Vicente back, and to end the threat of the warlock once and for all. But the road to hell is paved with far more than good intentions. Demons are hungry, and ghosts are relentless, and what awaits Adam in the underworld is nothing he is prepared to face.

If that weren’t enough, Adam has one more thing he must do if he and Vicente are to return to the world of the living: find the lost heart of Death herself.

Featured Article: Best of the Year—The 12 Best Fantasy Listens of 2022

Between film, television, literature, and audio—2022 could easily be proclaimed the Year of the Fantasy, much to the delight of fans among us. But when it came to picking the best of the best, the glut of fantastic content also significantly increased the CR (challenge rating). This year’s winner edged ahead of the rest thanks to its atmospheric, suck-you-in (pun intended) audio experience, but every performance on this list transported us.

All the Yassss

What a ride these three books have been. The concept of stretching what little you have in a main character in such a fantastical setting is a pretty creative way to go. I also love how the titles of each book can be seen as derogatory, but are pretty subversive to Adam himself, save this last book, yeah that guy is a deadbeat druid lol.

I loved that this was such a fantastical story that dealt with love, redemption, family, and so much more. Adam is a fantastic conduit for these themes throughout the book and I was immersed in his relationships and dramas (oohhh that live angle between a certain elf and a police officer ouuuwee what sweet drama).

Anyway, treat yourself to this series, it’s pretty epic and grounded ;)

So satisfying ❤️

I binged listened to all three books and it was so amazing. The story, the mystery, and the love was just right for me and honestly the only series to keep my interest. Good job to everyone involved with this masterpiece.

Good conclusion

I loved this series from beginning to end. The main character was amazingly well written, I was halfway in love with him almost from the start.

Intriguing Premise

I enjoyed this series. Interesting characters, enough plot twist to keep it moving through 3 books, and a lot of character growth even among the minor characters.
Well written, nice performance by the reader, this set may be one I listen to at least a second time.

Amazing Series

Not what I expected

Wasn’t sure what to expect when I started listening to the first book but I was hooked and glad I did!! All three books are amazing, so was the performance! If you love books about magic this is a must.

This series….

The story is unique, extremely well written and interesting on its own but add in that narration and it really is amazing! The narrator did such a great job bringing this book and Adam Binder’s world to life!

Excellent conclusion

Very well performed and story flowed well. Fans of the series know what you are getting and won’t be disappointed. My complaint is that it ended. I wanted the audio book to just go on telling me more stories about the Binder Clan.
