About this listen

After a dramatic end to the Justin Wilson case, psychic Tennyson Grimm heads to a small island off the coast of Maine, hoping to clear his mind and renew his spirit. When the dead won’t let Tennyson rest, the psychic curses his gift and orders the spirits to leave him. He wakes the next morning to silence and finds truth in the saying, "be careful what you wish for.”

Detective Ronan O’Mara has been tasked by his boss with the chore of finding a more "sedate" cold case to investigate this time around. The handsome cop is only too happy to oblige. He chooses the 20-year-old case of a family patriarch who was murdered on Christmas night, 1997. The only possible suspects are either his wife or his daughter, who were both with him at the time of his death. Ronan figures this one will be a piece of cake. All he has to do is get his favorite medium to talk to the deceased man's spirit.

When Tennyson reveals the truth about what happened in Maine, he’s forced to take a hard look at who he thought he was and what his gift really means. Ronan does his best to help his lover cope with his new normal while he uses good old-fashioned police work to figure out a family who put the "dis" in dysfunction.

Will Tennyson be able to find the key to unlock his gift, or will the spirits stay dead silent?

This book is phenomenal! The whole series is.

I loved the twist in this book and how the case behind the story was much lighter than the previous two. It gives us a small reprieve and we get a chance to focus on Ronan and Ten's relationship much more, but with out loosing the detective aspects of the book as well. Ronan was amazing though out the whole book and seeing them finally have time to develop who they are as a couple is really nice. While less action packed that the previous this book is by no means lacking, and might be one of my favourites now!

Cops & Psychics

I'm really enjoying this series. It honestly feels like watching a cop show on television. The ongoing relationship between Ronan and Tennyson continues to grow in this third installment and we get to see them learn more about how to be in a relationship. It took me a while to come to terms with why Tenn felt he had to go away at the end of the last book but after listening to this one I was able to completely understand it. Poor Tenn goes through some serious struggles in this book and at one point I was with his friends in wanting to smack him a little bit but he definitely gets his head back on straight quickly. The case that they are solving in this one is a bit different from the first two books which made it even more enjoyable because it wasn't the same ole thing again, the author made the Cold Case aspect feel more real by changing it up a little. I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment in this series. The narration is superb, I really enjoy being able to listen to a book when I'm working and Michael Pauley is one I could listen to all day.

Fantastic Narration

After their most recent case, Tennyson goes off to find and heal himself. Well, things happen and he has cut off his abilities. I enjoyed this story because it was more of heart string pulling versus the gritty crime novel that was the last book. Between the steamy scents by Pine and the narration by Pauley, this book proves that love doesn't care and we do crazy things.

I couldn't love it more!

You know a book is good when you're listening while grocery shopping and you cant hold the laughter back! I laughed and cried and now totally wish I could be friends with Ronan and Tennyson! Plus, I want to know all those moms! I need that so much.

An emotional mystery

This is my favorite Cold Case!

Tennyson and Ronan are at it again, trying to figure out who killed Harold Owens a twenty-year-old cold case. Ronan thought this case would be easy to solve once Ten was back, but a devastating twist is thrown in and now the two men are trying to solve two mysteries.

I felt sadness for Tennyson and his emotional brake down after seeing the therapist, but it was Ronan my heart broke for and I wish I could have just hugged him.

"Ronan's words played over and over again in his mind, his voice had sounded devastated, the look in his eyes was pure heartbreak, and Ten had done those things to him."

The emotions are so high in this story and once again Michael Pauley does an amazing job in making me feel all that the two men go through.

I'd recommend this book in a heartbeat.

Be careful what you wish for...

Be careful what you wish for.... it might just come true.

This is something Tennyson Grimm bitterly learns one day when he desperately needs some peace and quiet from the spirits that seek his help. The last case he and Ronan worked on completely wiped him out. To recover and recharge he decides to go to a small Island outside Seattle for a few days. Only the vacation isn't as relaxing as he hoped, spirits are everywhere and he can't get a moments peace. One afternoon he breaks and ends up screaming at them to go away and wishing his gift away. Mentally exhausted he falls asleep and when he wakes up some twelve hours later he finds that his wish came true. Only now, he desperately wants it back, but hasn't the faintest idea of how.

At the same time Ronan is back home in Salem looking through cold cases. He looks for the easiest and more importantly the most boring case he can find. He could sure use less excitement in his cases than the last couple of cases he and Ten worked on. In a way he gets his wish, the case don't present any real danger to either him or Ten and it won't leave them with scars (mental or otherwise). The only problem is the lack of Ten's ability to communicate with the deceased to find out the identity of the murderer.

I did enjoy the path this story took - for the most part. I liked how Ten losing his ability really made him, and his family to revalue, to think. For years his life has been run by the spirits that turn to him, with no regards to him. But now that had to change. I'm also a fan of the secondary characters, they round up the story in a nice way.

Something that I was not a fan of Ten running from Ronan - again. Or of him not telling Ronan about losing his gift. At some point he needs to really open up and trust. But if he continues to run hot and cold, I might just go mad. I don't mean that there needs to be huge declarations, moving in together, proposals or any of that. But basic trust, and reliability, that I do need. Open and honest conversations, otherwise he and Ronan won’t ever have a chance for something that will last when the moments passed.

Michael Pauley narrates this series, and this book, wonderfully. He captures the nuances of the story and brings it to the listener in a way that makes you a part of it. So much so that I listened to this book in one go and then wondering where the time had gone. Not that I minded really, I had a great time listening.

Dead Silent was another good instalment in this series and I can't wait to listen to what happens next in the lives of Ten and Ronan.

Dead Silent

This series just gets better with each new book released.

AND OMG THAT EPILOUGE... YESSS!!! I cannot wait for the next installment to come.

I love Tennyson and Ronan, their connection and chemistry together is just amazing, and gets stronger with each book. The first two books of the series were more focused on the suspense and action mixed with some romance. I felt like this one was the opposite, it focused more on the relationship, development, and characters themselves. Tennyson has some serious and turbulent inner angst and drama to deal with in "wishing his gift away" and Ronan of course stands strong beside him at all times. While Ronan was the "ass" in books one and two, the tables have turned and Tenn is the "ass" in this book. lol. I totally felt bad for Ronan at times in this book, he did not deserve some of the things said and done. I also cannot wait to see what happens next where Captain Fitzgibbons is concerned, with the little tidbit we hear about in this book, I can only imagine how great that will be. This book was great, same with the previous books, and I am jumping straight into the next one.

Audio - Michael Pauley has done a fantastic job with this series and these characters so far, as I am sure he will do with each book until the end. I really enjoy all his voices and slight accents for some of the characters included too. I am happy that I'm experiencing these books for the first time while in audio. I think with this series, the audio gives us the extra bit needed to suck us into the storyline and keep us enthralled from beginning to end more than just reading the books would (for me anyways) Books with suspense always seem better in audio, especially with a good narrator.

Keeps getting better

OMG that epilogue was the absolute best!!! I didn't figure out who the exact killer was, but the guy that was killed so had it coming to him. He was just so nasty!! I was absolutely shocked when Ten went off on Ronan. I could understand that he was majorly freaking out but holy crap that was just beyond words. I love this series & can't wait for more to come on audio as Michael Pauley does an amazing job.

Psychic Mary Poppins!

This book is a bit different from the previous two. Although the change of pacing is a good break. There’s hardly any action, except for the feuding dysfunctional family members. There’s no bullets, no kidnapping.

This one is more emotionally charged. Ten’s time to grow, to find himself outside his powers. It’s a journey of Ten and Ronan strengthening their bond.

There are moments where I couldn’t stand Ten’s attitude, tantrums and insecurities. But I’m glad that the Ten I met in book 1 is still there, he was willing to accept his mistakes, to ask for apology and to never make the same mistake again (I hope). Ronan’s come far from how he was in book 1.

I cannot wait for what the next book holds for Ronan and Ten. That epilogue was something fierce. 😍

Michael Pauley, you brought this book to life. Bravo.
