About this listen

Temple Baker knows that evil runs in her blood. Her father is the North Point Killer, an infamous serial killer known for branding his victims. He was the talk of countless true crime blogs for years. Some say he was possessed by a demon. Some say they never found all his victims. Some say that even though he’s now behind bars, people are still dying in the woods.

Despite everything, Temple never believed that her dad killed her mom. But when he confesses to that crime while on death row, she has no choice but to return to his old hunting grounds and try to find the body to prove it. Turns out, the farm that was once her family’s home has been turned into an overnight camp for queer, horror-obsessed girls. So Temple poses as a camp counselor to go digging in the woods. She tries her best to fit in and keep her true identity hidden.

Then a girl turns up dead in the woods, and Temple fears that one of her father’s “fans” might be mimicking his crimes. As she tries to uncover the truth and keep the campers safe, she realizes that there may be something stranger and more sinister at work—and that her father may not have been the only monster in these woods.

Critic reviews

“This book was so much fun, in the most terrifying way imaginable! Shockingly brutal, beautifully written, this is a must-read for horror fans. Keep the lights on for this one.”—Kalynn Bayron, New York Times bestselling author of You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight

The overall idea was a unique and interesting idea, however there was next to nothing in terms of character development. Characters felt very one dimensional and it made it very hard to care about any of them.

Interesting plot but poor execution

I am just floored by how deeply and profoundly good this book is.
Brilliantly read first of all

Oh
My
Gosh

I’m not going to sleep for a long time, but also the shining moments in the midst of all this carnage are so poignant and heartfelt I had to hold back tears

I love horror, but when horror has a solid plot, multidimensional characters you can love or love to hate, and a character arc that leaves you feeling like the sunrise after a hellish storm…

This book is all that

But be prepared

You have to go through a lot of darkness to break through the fire.

Adding Sami Ellis to my auto buy list. This was such a treat and now that I know I know, I’m going to listen again to enjoy all those layers

excellent writing, incredible narration, and so scary. I loved every second. Temple is such a complex girl and her journey to find friendship through all this horror and gore brings me so much hope and joy.

crazy twists and turns!

I had high hopes because it was hyped up. Honestly took me 4 months to finish which is insane. I loved the representation throughout though.
