Acerca de esta escucha

It is June 1940. The war against Hitler’s forces is raging. And the tide is turning against the British. In this hour of despair, Prime Minister Winston Churchill receives a mysterious letter from an even more mysterious woman, offering a Faustian bargain and a promise of victory. But if Churchill accepts, will he be condemning his nation’s very soul?

Darkness Visible is based on the graphic novel of the same name, written by Mike Carey and Arvind Ethan David, and stars Christian McKay as Winston Churchill and Miranda Richardson as Lady Vivian.

Earworms is a series of short, speculative fiction dramas–tales of what might have been...or might yet be...or perhaps in fact are, if only you were paying attention...if only you were listening.

Bigotry got in the way at the very end. *spoiler alert* It was totally unnecessary to the story to make a direct - and very flawed - comparison between the Jews/Israel to demons/Gibraltar. It almost feels like Audible is not following its own guidelines set forth for reviewers, since comparing a religious group to demons could be considered to be offensive with no stretch of the imagination. Adding to this, although maybe more central to the story, was the framing of the leader of WW2 Germany as as more moral than Churchill in his choice of ally. I’m a bit leery of the timing of this. That being said, great voice work & production values.

I was enjoying this until…

What a transparent lightweight story. As soon as the other being appeared and the deal was struck . . .

Predictable

I always enjoy stories that incorporate real history with some fantastical story telling. It’s a rather quick story, but the production is on point.

I wish the ending was a bit more fleshed out and wasn’t so abrupt. But if you’re just wanting a super quick listen, it’s not a bad choice.

Fun blend of History and the supernatural

One credit for a summary teaser? I expected a book not something that lasted for an hour maybe I didn't read the fine print

Not worth one credit

It's been a long time since I read a story that hit me like this one. WOW. Amazing story, well written and very thought provoking. The audio production is top notch.

Insanely interesting

I love the tight story, the seamless blend into real history. My only gripe is that the ending seemed rather abrupt but it was mostly cause I didn’t want it to end

The incredible sound design and voice acting!

Very interesting alternative take on WW-2 history. Curious to see what happens next. I enjoyed the performances; Richardson is excellent as always and the personification of Churchill was really good.

Interesting

I enjoyed the performance but found the ending a bit trite and muddled. Overall, it was fun till the wrap-up.

Churchill was well performed.

Right when it seemed like it was just starting to get good it was over. Wish it was a longer story

I like the different voices of characters better in a short story. This was like a short play. I liked it

Fast and fun
