Critic reviews

"European history buffs will appreciate this well-researched story … [The] sense of Paris under siege is nicely cinematic.” ( Publishers Weekly)

Simply masterful!

I cannot express high enough praise for this novel. Its plot was intriguing, and suspenseful at appropriate times, with the result that I never lost interest for even a moment. The historical backdrop provided fascinating glimpses of behind-the-scenes events leading up to and surrounding the Franco-Prussian War and its aftermath that hitherto were, to me, mere history book footnotes. The richly developed and believable characters exhibited a full range of traits and emotions that truly brought them to life. Add to that the superb narration skills of George Guidall,* and Dark in the City of Light is sure to be an audio book that I will enjoy time and again. (* I think that I would listen for hours, totally transfixed, if Mr. Guidall was merely reading the Chicago phonebook!)
