About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Iris Johansen is back with another high octane thriller that will leave your mind racing and your heart pounding.

Despite her tragic childhood, violin prodigy Cara Delaney has finally found peace in her career as a professional musician and stability in her relationship with her guardians, forensic sculptor Eve Duncan and ex-Navy SEAL Joe Quinn. If only Jock Gavin, Cara's lifelong friend and a man with his own twisted history, would even talk to her, everything would be perfect.

But the carefully constructed life Cara has built for herself is suddenly threatened when she is kidnapped by a mysterious man from her grandfather's past, setting off a violent chain of events that puts everyone Cara loves in danger. Will Cara become a tribute to her family's dark past, or will she be able to keep herself and her loved ones alive?

ANOTHER HOME RUN!

Love this series!

I will not be redundant by writing what’s already in the summary.

What I can say is that this is another great Eve Duncan story. And I will also add that Michael is now ten years old, and his “gifts” are growing, which made for a more interesting story.

The narration was very enjoyable, too.

Recommended story!

I LOVE ALL OF THE EVE DUNCAN SERIES & NOVELLA'S

I have followed the Eve Duncan series from the beginning, and love each character. The book Dark Tribute is certainly dark with plenty of action, suspense, and even intimate passion. As an avid fan of this series and the novella's that are also tied to the series, reading them in order is important and can leave you frustrated if you aren't following along. She does a quick recap but nothing detailed only making you want to backtrack and find the book where one character from the novella's moves to the series and vice versa. The Narrator has changed only once from Iris's early work to the narrator now, and I liked them both, but admit this narrator has a little more passion and emotion when representing the character talking, feeling or thinking. My favorite part of this book was two distinct moments that center around Cars and Jac's relationship, well, three, I won't give them away, but listen or pay attention closely. One thing I've learned reading all of this series is that Iris never puts anything in the book that doesn't tie together at the end. It's subtle but welll worth reading or listening to. I hope this helps you and trust that I especially like the added supernatural elements of the whole series. I'm not a religious person, but do enjoy the sense of "a gift from God" nothing overtly preached in any of Iris's books regarding this series or the Novella's. I certainly love the hint from a little help from above. In the increasing wake of Covid ruling all of our lives these days the escape to Eve Duncan's world as dark as it can be, if you know anything about the characters, antagonists, love, family and angelic help gives me and hopefully you a little moment as you escape, as you read or listen, immersed in the characters, a small sense of a prayer that there is that little hint of something more than ourselves, albeit God, the power of the universe, or whatever religious affiliation you might or might not not believe in, is somehow out there helping someone, somewhere in the world and just might give you a brief moment of peace, love and appreciation of those you love. I do hope that whomever reads this post in it's entirety heeds my caution of picking up in the middle of the series or this book, Dark Tribute that it's a great book, but without reading or listening to the series from the very beginning to know the characters, the backstory of each of them, well, it's starts where it always starts... at the beginning. Iris Johansen has her own website. Check it out for the entire list of her books including the novellas and the list of the books of the Eve Dumcan series, and a few other series along with the Novella's tied to it, it gives you a list to go by, but pay attention to the year they were published, that's where you'll want to make your list of reading or listening. I hope you enjoy the series as much as I have and find yourself anxious and excited for her next book to be out on the shelves as I am.

Another great book

I don't think there could ever be a bad Irish Johnson book. Strong characters, intrigue and Elisabeth Rodgers. A hit.

Typical Iris Johansen

If you typically like Iris Johansen, you will probably enjoy this book. In this story the Villain is revealed early and most of the book deals with countering his evil machinations and ultimately ridding the world of him. In all of her books either the female lead or the male lead is reluctant to give into their feelings for the other. In this story it is the male . I generally like the male characters in Ms Johansen’s books. As per usual, the females spend a lot of time sounding petulant, make unrealistic choices in order to prove themselves as useful, needed, equals, etc. They often refuse to face situations by thinking what? If I don’t acknowledge it , it does not exist? Overall. I enjoyed listening to this book to make my daily workouts more enjoyable
