About this listen

Doreen Williamson is a quiet, shy librarian on Earth. As many other young women she is distrustful of her attractions, frightened of men, introverted in manner and sexually inhibited. She lives in a quiet, lonely, dissatisfying, sheltered, frustrated desperation, distant from her true self, her nature denied, her only friends books and her secret thoughts. In the realization and enactment of a profound fantasy, after acute self-conflict, she dares to study dancing, a form of dance in which she is at last free to move her body as a female, a form of dance in which she may revel in her beauty and womanhood, a form of dance historically commanded by masters of selected, suitable slaves: belly dance.

Thus may she fantasize her longed-for desirability. This is, of course, her delicious, shameful secret, one which must be concealed from all, one which must be forever carefully guarded. Unbeknownst to herself, however, she has independently come to the attention of skilled assessors of women, of Gorean slavers. While secretly practicing in the library after hours she is surprised by three men. She must then dance, for the first time, before men. For the first, time, too, she discovers her own desirability, and that she is such as may be well bid upon. She will be taken to the beautiful, perilous world of Gor, there, in a collar, to learn her womanhood, and there, at last, to beautifully and profoundly find and fulfill herself.

Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the first book of the Gorean Saga, Tarnsman of Gor, E-Reads is proud to release the very first complete publication of all Gor books by John Norman, in both print and audiobook editions, including the long-awaited 26th novel in the saga, Witness of Gor. Many of the original Gor books have been out of print for years, but their popularity has endured. Each book of this release has been specially edited by the author and is a definitive text.

Gives a nice view into one aspect of the world.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Probably the length of the book itself. The descriptions are good, but vague in some areas and this lengthens it out considerably

What could John Norman have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Sometimes the scenes go on a bit of a segue, though relevent to read to help give an overall picture of the world at times it can be distracting.

What about Alicyn Aimes’s performance did you like?

Yes it was enjoyable.

Do you think Dancer of Gor needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

no most of the series especially later on can be taken individually.

Excellent story if you like submissive females

While the story is rather preposterous, the idea of taking a shy, reserved, modest woman -- who knows, in her heart, that she is not and can never be the equal of a true man -- and turning her into a slave girl is an incredibly erotic thing.

The nature of sexuality is complex. Men must become strong and dominant, and after completion can go about their business. Sex, to them, is external. But to a woman, who must become soft, open, weak and heated, sex is very much internal. After the male completes his task and needs nothing further, she is ready for more. It is not easy to dismiss the fact that a woman finds fulfilment in being pleasing to many males, and even wanting multiple partners, as her needs are not as easily satisfied as a male.

For Doreen Williamson and all females like her, she was incomplete as a free woman on Earth. Women who deny their innate sexuality retard their growth as human beings. But when everything is stripped away -- clothing, identity, legal status, modesty, privacy, virginity, and self-determination -- they find themselves complete.

May all females find their joy in fulfilment of their most basic sexuality, which lurks in the bottom of their pretty bellies.

Irritating narration

I read this book and all the others years ago and was looking forward to the audio version. I was disappointed by the narrator who mispronounced several words. I could understand if it was the Gorean ones as that is a matter of interpretation, but ordinary English words were regularly mispronounced. One example was quadruped, pronounced quadrooped. Another was Chaldea, pronounced with a hard CH sound.
There were others as well.
Another is the irritating imperious fake English/Russian type of accent used when reading the Gorean parts. The story does not support it. All in all, I enjoyed the story again but wish someone else would be chosen for the narration.

Hard to get through

Narration was difficult to muster. I skipped through the entire book. I gave a star rating of one because it was required to submit the review.

I wish I could get my money back for this one.

Worst one yet

Interminable, endlessly repetitious. I need to write more words so this is as boring as the story.
