About this listen

In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor"). Dad is Fat is sharply observed, explosively funny, and a cry for help from a man who has realized he and his wife are outnumbered in their own home.

Kids Under The Age of 10? This Will Make You Howl

I've loved Jim Gaffigan for years. I bought this book for my Dad for Father's Day last year. Unfortunately I believe he was offended by the title and never read the contents since he thought I was calling him fat by giving him this book. I should have purchased the book for me. I have 4 kids under 8 years and was wiping tears away reading the book's introduction it was that funny to read the roles they play. Jim's delivery and honesty, coupled with his descriptions, voices, and material, is really so wonderful and hilarious. This is one funny book, yet it's different from his stand-up, and the listener will be laughing with reminders as babies cry in the night.

Couldn't Finish

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This starts out so hilarious. I like the short essay format. Unfortunately, it gets too deep into the tired stories of how much you love your mini me and can't believe it. Just boring. Should've edited more strongly and got to the point of how funny the kids are and say those funny things.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Couldn't force myself to get there.

Was Dad Is Fat worth the listening time?

no

I love it more each time I listen to it!

So funny, this is very pertinent to Parenthood, I'm happy that Jim reads this. He is great.

hilarious

Listening to this audiobook is just like being at a comedy show. Jim Gaffigan's book did not disappoint. I also highly recommend his other book: Food, A Love Story

Jim Gaffigan is hilarious

What did you love best about Dad Is Fat?

Jim Gaffigan can do no wrong. He is one of my favourite Comedians. I don't have children and this book is mostly about that... and I still love it.

So funny!!!

I love Jim Gaffigan!! This is a 5 + hour comedy special. It's not as good as "Food: A Love Story", but it does not disappoint. All the better that Mr. Gaffigan reads the book. He is so funny. I love all his stories about his kids. If you need a good laugh, give this a listen.

hilarious, spot on look at being a parent

What made the experience of listening to Dad Is Fat the most enjoyable?

Listening to this book is like listening to a 5 hour stand up routine about parenting. It's the perfect "break" from the every day routine and made me appreciate the small things about being a parent.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I'm not one to laugh out loud often or easily but this book had me doing both.

Any additional comments?

Sometimes books feel like they're never going to end, this one ended too soon. I'm ready for the sequel "Dad is Fatter".
