About this listen
A powerfully written story of music making, enriched with enthralling characters and a suspense-filled plot.” -The Wishing Shelf
From an award-winning writer and avid musician comes the fascinating 2nd novel of The Bardic Isles Series!
Gifted with the power of the Bards of ancient Eire—a power not even he understands—Kaelin is given the golden opportunity to learn from the other four Masters of the Bardic Isles. He’ll spend three months with each of them: the Instrument Master, the Master Flutist, the Voice Master, and the Master Harpist. A false allegation turns the apprentice’s journey into a living nightmare, one which threatens to take away everything … his instruments, his robe, and worst of all, his own Master. As Kaelin learns the hardest lessons of his life, the music of Bardic Mountain pulls at him, and his sleep is disturbed by visions. Can he escape the injustice of Bardic Law and the mysteriously escalating pull of the mountain?

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Story
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

Boto Slate wakes up on his fourteenth birthday and is excited to know he is homeless. Not being bound down means he can strike out as an adventurer. He begins his new life not knowing what fate has in store. An ancient and nearly forgotten evil cult stirs. They have but one goal. Destroy the Gods and reshape the world in their twisted image. Standing in their way is Boto Slate. A half dwarf, quarter elf and quarter human hybrid who wields powerful magic. But is naïve and unexperienced in the ways of the world. And is also the object of a misguided Goddess's affections.

Sebastian Pana is a sin-eater, a shaman-like figure who can absolve the dead of their transgressions before they move on to the afterlife. But when a tear in the fabric of reality allows hideous beasts to invade the small arctic town he calls home, Sebastian must wage battle with them the only way he knows how: by unleashing the power of sin itself. Though I'm part of the most powerful family in Elantio, I failed to produce mana on my Manifestation day. Thus, I was relegated to the most shameful place for someone of my status: the Archives. What may have seemed like a sentence truly was a blessing in disguise. I may be a mule—one with the blood of a sorcerer yet unable to channel any magic—but what I lack in raw power I make up for with my tenacity. It's in those Archives that I searched and searched for a way to bypass my curse. Now, after years of study and browsing through hundreds of books, I may have found a solution.

"Congratulations! You are the last survivor of the Hell Games. You have gained back your freedom." Huh? One moment I was running from demons and other competitors trying to do me in. The next, I was thrown back into yet another realm. Before me, some Princess started explaining that she had asked the gods for champions to help save her world in these dire times… and I was one of the chosen heroes. Yeah, right! I had been in Hell long enough to know I shouldn't trust my senses when it all seemed too good to be true.

Music! Magic! Just plain Awesom!
I love the Masters. I adore the main character. This book is such a lovely change from ugly, dark, fantasy. I cried at the end. It was so good! I am so sad I have to wait for the next one. I maybread them both again.
