About this listen

Humanity is fighting against an implacable foe. The Ghasts - a ruthless alien race - seem hell-bent on wiping out mankind. They have a vast warfleet and their technology is advancing at a terrible rate.

Captain John Nathan Duggan and his crew are given a mission - find the missing ESS Crimson and bring it home. Little does Duggan realize, this is no ordinary mission. As he struggles against enemies both within and without, he desperately tries to unlock the mystery surrounding the Crimson's disappearance and the unknown weapons it carries. He soon discovers the missing warship might be the only hope for salvation that mankind has left.

When everything is veiled in secrecy nothing is easy, as Duggan is about to find out.

great story great reader

I've been listening to this author for about a week. I really enjoy his stories his death of characters and his world building. I'm really surprised he's not more popular this is a good book from a really good author

Disappointing

Plodding, but it filled time. Narrator growled his way through it. Won't bother with the next one.

Get a therapist

I couldn't get through this story. It has an interesting premise, finding a long lost ship, but that plot point gets lost. The captain spends a lot of time diving into his belly button. The ship is run in a sloppy manner, which is weird considering they are supposed to be at war. The captain isn't terribly reliable. When three people die in an accident, he sits down and cries when he should be supporting his people who are standing there watching. A couple of chapters in I decided I'd be scared to death if I was crew on that ship. The captain is wallowing in his angst and doesn't have time to know anything about his ship, his mission or his crew. They're all gonna die!

An obvious cash grab ripoff

Decent story, decent writing, good narration. Needed a lot more details fleshed out from world-building, and it suffers from a lack inconsistency and situational urgency because of it. It is difficult to feel invested in the outcome of any given moment when not enough is understood about the factors involved. This is like the thin skin of a children's picture storybook written over the top of a deeper space opera. It feels unfinished and shallow. Giving a 1-star review due to the horrible scummy decision by author to break a normal sized book up into small chunks and selling each of those small parts for maximum profit, or in other words, maximum ripoff for the consumer.

Rip Off Series

The rest of the books in the series are about the size of half a book. It’s funny how the first book is longer. Its almost like they hoped to get you interested enough with the first book so you won’t want to stop buying the series when you figure out you’re paying full price for half a book.

I have noticed fewer and fewer authors doing this because of the bad reviews people are giving them. I hope more people call them out for it.
