About this listen

Catherine Mae Blackston is missing. She is not the first.

While investigating Blackston’s recent activities, FBI Agent Jeremy Winter stumbles upon a string of missing persons within state parks. Unable to convince his boss that Blackston’s disappearance is anything other than a lost hiker, Winter joins forces with a local police officer to continue the search.

As the clues mount, a dark figure from Jeremy’s past emerges with an ultimatum - one that could force him out of the bureau. Afraid that his girlfriend, fellow agent Maggie Keeley, will be dragged into a high-stakes political game, he delays his decision. But as the tally of missing persons increases, Winter closes in on the unlikeliest of suspects.

The bodies are out there.

He just has to find them before his past catches up with him.

Not a terrible story, but the narrator? I mean, where do they find these people? Absolutely horrible. “Police-MAN”, “Jeep Wrang-guh-lurr”? This guy was so robotic and the enunciation was atrocious, I promise, anyone reviewing this narrator positively is a family member of his.

Hard to listen to

This was suggested by Audible. Had listened to a few crime novels, so thought a lighter book would be good. It is pure raunch, bordering on porn. I have never been accused of being a prude, but this is too much even for me

Raunch

For some reason the narrator over enunciated every. single. word! I had to listen to the whole book in a faster speed in order to get through the very irritating narration. Most male narrators just can’t seem to pull off a female voice, this was true here as well. But the child’s voice wasn’t even a little bit childish! It Was Terrible! This is why I was hesitant to pay for Audible. I would rather buy the actual book instead of a listening to an Awful audible version! The story was well written. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. But NOT if they use the same horrible narrator!! Please don’t ruin the rest of the series with Austin Walp narrating.

Narrator was awful!

The story idea was great. I would have like to see some more cliff hangers. The characters left me wanting to know more. The progression of the writing was slow. The ending left me feeling like the author got tired of it all and wanted the book done. I had all kinds.of ideas how he would end it. However, the way it ended I did not think of. There was a little bit of a twist but very truncated. I felt unfinished.

Strange ending

I was about to delete this book due to the poor production quality at the beginning. But that was resolved within the first hour or so. After that, all was done well. The story is good, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I enjoyed it! Just have to get through the beginning

There were many characters and he did the voices well but he didn't pause at the logical point in a sentence which was very distracting. I always listen to the sample before I buy a book and I guess I didn't notice this.
This is the first book in a series that I will not continue. The author probably meant to portray the main character as human but it just came off as wimpy.
The story was good. It started out a little slow but I'm glad I stuck with it. There were some surprises and I liked how the author humanizes the serial killer.

Narrator was very distracting

A good thriller with a slow and steady build to the ending. It felt like a bit of an unsettled ending to me, but one could say it's a way to keep the reader interested in the next book. I may listen to another before making my mind up on this series and author.

Decent thriller

This is a very good mystery/thriller. It stays suspenseful, but a little frustrating, throughout. The characters are well developed. Worth listening to.

Great mystery/thriller

This is a great book. You know from the start who the killer is, but that doesn't take anything from the story. It a great story and the characters are likeable. I would highly recommend this one.

Excellent Story

Great story, but the narrator sounded like a robot. It took me a while to get past that.

Narration sounded like text to speech
