Editorial reviews

Kate Clinton treads the boards of comedy, riffing on politics, relationships, and family in this stand-up sendup. Clinton exudes gallant gaiety in her good humored examination of lesbian life lessons. The self-described "fumerist", or "feminist humorist" is uplifting and engaging in this ode to lesbian icons, from Hillary Clinton to She-Ra. Veering beyond LGBTQ issues, the former schoolteacher is on point as she takes on corporatism, consumerism, and the "dot calm" bust. Clinton has no need for the cynicism and obscenity that so often colors contemporary comedy. On the contrary, this winning wit dishes out humor that heals, affirms, and celebrates diversity.

Kate Rocked My world, And Made me Laugh!

What did you love best about Comedy You Can Dance To?

Mostly because of her political truths and general observations of life, She presents in such a funny way that it just makes you laugh really hard until you are half crying while you are laughing so hard.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the part monologue on PCH and how they half to someday half to come to a gay household, And I like her stuff about her lover and her stuff on GAP stores. The Gap store stuff was super funny, Just the who CD is funny from start to finish, Just the way she looks at at life in America. And I know some of this CD is dated but it still stand up and is as funny today as it was in the 90's when she recorded it, It's just the way she views life. She recorded it before the year 2000 and makes reference to it but like it still holds up and is true today stuff. The Viagra stuff was really funny too. And the Clinton Stuff was Awesome. And Xena, She-Ra, And George Bush and...

Which character – as performed by the narrator – was your favorite?

It's all Kate just her doing her monologue. And Boy does she make she laugh, She is the godmother of all the lesbian comedy. She was the great first great lesbian comedy (OK, Lilly Tomlin but she didn't do Lesbian comedy.)

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Kate did a DVD of her stand up which is very funny. I wish there were more films of her doing her stand up acts over the years, I saw her live in the early 90's at the South Woman's Music Festival and she made the weekend. The best act there over all the music acts. I loved her.

Any additional comments?

Just a funny story, while at the South Woman's Music Festival every one had to work a job for so many hours so I ended up working security for the back stage entrance, so I couldn't really see the stage very well but I could hear it well. Anyway I hear Kate and loved her. Later she came to get her stuff and I stopped her because she didn't have the back stage pass thing. Anyway her girl friend did. So I let them back. And As I was holding them up I asked them if they caught Kate Clinton because she was Awesome. And Kate was much amused. Anyway when she came back with her custom I realized who I had stopped and just felt stupid. But she was nice about it. At least I told her she was Awesome when I didn't know who she was. .
