About this listen

If we hope to interrupt educational inequities and create schools in which every child thrives, we must open our hearts to purposeful conversation and hone our skills to make those conversations effective. With characteristic honesty and wisdom, Elena Aguilar inspires us to commit to transforming our classrooms, lays bare the hidden obstacles to equity, and helps us see how to overcome these obstacles, one conversation at a time.

Coaching for Equity is packed with the resources necessary to implement transformational coaching in any organization. In addition to an updated coaching framework and corresponding rubrics, a comprehensive set of coaching tools puts success in every coach's hands. Extensive personal narratives demonstrate what coaching for equity looks like and help us see how we can make every conversation count toward building a more just and equitable world.

Coaching for Equity covers critical topics in the larger conversation about racial equity and helps listeners develop the knowledge, dispositions, and skills to be able to: talk productively about race; build trust to support vulnerability; unpack mental models and change someone's mind; observe classrooms and collect data to support equitable outcomes; inspire others and deepen commitment; and evaluate and celebrate growth.

Fantastic resource; terrible narration

WOW: wanted to brush up on the content of this amazing coaching resource, so I got the audio book. I nearly returned it the same day--the reader is awkward and stilted, to the point that at times I thought the narration was done via computer animation. I truly hope no one gets turned off Elena Aguilar's life changing work because of the narrator's delivery.

The content of the text is powerful, important, and incredibly timely, and/but it's so full of resources I'd recommend the actual text as a first option (however, Aguilar's website (Brightmorning.com) offers a wealth of free supports if you don't have a hard copy). I'm a huge fan of all her books and her whole approach.

A bridge builder between overwhelming and possible

Thinking and taking about race can feel overwhelming- not knowing how or when to broach the topic and then trying to navigate the emotions and beliefs … This book is a good read for people who plan to coach inequities but also for people who want to face and help dismantle racial inequity- or even understand the impact of systemic racism.

These may all seem like buzz words but this book breaks them down and provided more to help readers gain a needed vocabulary that provides a more concrete way to understand, express, and clarify systemic racism and racial bias.

I read Me and White Supremacy and So You Want to Talk About Race before …which may have set the foundation …but this could be a good starting point as well .

I really feel the book is more for all educators and humans than just coaches - yet essential for coaches in any career.

Well narrated . Good pace and clear … I used with the book to read through any diagrams and lists mentioned.

Equitable experiences matter

mandatory reading for any teams committed to promoting equity on the school level. Ideal for coaches, teacher leaders, school leaders and those supporting schools. The time is now we are the people to take up this change. And if you are a school leader assess how committed you are to equity by analyzing your budgetary spending and figuring out what portion of it is committed to equitable change to ensure all students achieve at their best.

Inspirational

This was text cut to the chase regarding White supremacy and how biases can show up in the classroom. Thank you for addressing this issue head on and for providing scaffolds for educators to strengthen their reflective skills and follow through on actionable steps for equitable practices in schools.
