About this listen

Texas attorney and former Texas Ranger Billy Bob Holland has many secrets. Among them is Vernon Smother's son, Lucas, a now-teenaged boy about whom few know the truth: Lucas is really Billy Bob's illegitimate son. When Lucas is arrested for murder, Billy Bob must confront the past and serve as the boy's criminal attorney. As a result, he incurs enemies that are far more dangerous than any he faced as a Texas Ranger.©1997 James Lee Burke. All rights reserved (P)1997 Simon and Schuster Inc. All rights reserved. Critic reviews

"Will Patton's narration [is] delivered with the appropriate blend of swagger and country-western grit." (Chicago Tribune) "Cimarron Rose is a fine, multitextured novel, full of Burke's lilting, elegiac prose and unflinching in its portrait of the human heart in turmoil." (Booklist)

Unnecessary musical embellishment

At the conclusion, a I’ll-conceived musical audio track is introduced which greatly detracts from the author’s words and the mental image one constructs.

Abridged

Sad that the story was so chopped up when the author and narrator have such talent

Anything Burke Writes....

I am a big fan of anything James Lee Burke writes and Will Patton narates. PERIOD. This was the first of this character series for me. I will "read" the others.

Not the best

I didn't like the abridged version. Jumped around too much and hard to follow. Will Patton saved the story. Such a good narrative.
