Acerca de esta escucha

Will Burgess is used to hard knocks. Abandoned by his father, son of a drug-addicted mother, and charged with raising his six-year-old sister, Will has far more to worry about than most high school freshmen. To make matters worse, Mia Samuels, the girl of Will’s dreams, is dating his worst enemy, the most sadistic upperclassman at Shadeland High. Will’s troubles, however, are just beginning. Because one of the nation’s most notorious criminals - the Moonlight Killer - has escaped from prison and is headed straight toward Will’s hometown. And something else is lurking in Savage Hollow, the forest surrounding Will’s rundown house. Something ancient and infinitely evil. When the worst storm of the decade descends on Shadeland, Will and his friends must confront unfathomable horrors. Everyone Will loves - his mother, his little sister, Mia, and his friends - will be threatened. And very few of them will escape with their lives.

This book has so many different levels of horror! Just when I thought I have listed all the horrors in this book, I remember other ways this book uses horror! Great characters, the good ones are good and the bad ones, well, I wanted to throw away my morals and choke someone! The world building is great, I could picture the town and the hollows and more! Very little time in the book to get bored, something tense or terrifying is usually going on or you know might happen soon. That anticipated soon comes true but always unpredictable, never what you expected. This was a great horror book!
Narration is excellent!

I’ve been wanting monster stories for a bit and this one was perfect to get back into them! The writing style is fantastic, just the right description of the decimation of people, teenagers are captured perfectly, etc. It was gruesome in the perfect way and you never know who will be safe. Totally recommend!

Perfect for a monster kick!

This is an entertaining listen. It's better than most television and I really wanted more for it.

It really drags toward the end, and while things wrap up reasonably well, I just can't get past the whining.

This started out really well and then......meh

I enjoyed, I will at some point listen to the second story in the series. Teenagers vs monsters vs serial killer. This was a new author for me and I like him. Matt Godfrey is one of my favorite narrators, I found this book when I was looking for other works he narrated.

It was fun

This author does a great job with character development but a little too cliched. That is disappointing. Pacing is good. He keeps the suspense level up. The narrator was excellent !! This is my second book by this author and I have enjoyed them both and will check out others by him.

Great Book

Will and Chris just finished beating their baseball team's rival on the last normal night of their lives before their small town is plunged into mystery, secrets, disappearances, and murder uncovered in the span of two nights, more or less. I love horror, but this book felt like a 15 year old wrote it, which is exactly how old Will is. Also, things like descriptions and action words were very repetitive. How many different ways can you say "his eyes were a dull green, his eyes were a listless green" etc. The characters behaved stereotypically; the duo of mean jocks, the pretty but sensitive girl, the hot girlfriend to the most popular guy in school, etc. Very cliche. The adults spent so much time covering their own secrets and pleasures to the point where it was detrimental to their kid's safety. For example; there is spousal and familial abuse (won't say what character) and the person obviously has a habit of doing it. The cops arrive and DO nothing, even with evidence and a complaining witness. Nothing happens to the abuser and the cops never even seem to report it. They just say "yeah, we at the precinct don't like that guy very much." Just wow. All that being said, this book couldn't seem to figure out if it wanted to be fantastical creature story, a serial murderer, or ritual sacrifice for self preservation. So lots going on in the book. Decent premise, but the glaring issues with the plot, characters, and follow through just made this book slightly below average.

Mixed, average bag
