Publisher's summary
Ever try to fill boots a size too large?
Ever keep pace with strides too long?
Ever try to cast a long shadow?
“Bad Bobby” Trent, star high school athlete, college scholarship holder, pro-rodeo circuit rider, lived an unencumbered life. He was a man, who, by his own definition, limited his concentration to no more than eight seconds at a time - the time required to ride a bull or saddlebronc and win. He’s tough, independent, shallow, and always looking for a good time. Then his father is murdered.
Sheriff Robert Trent, was the longtime chief law enforcement officer of Lodge Pole County Montana. He was stern, fair, honest, and dependable. He tried to see the best in people, and always ready to give them one more chance. He was ambushed, shot dead at the side of the road. Set up by someone he knew. Now, rumors claim the sheriff wasn’t all that he claimed. Rumors claim he was dirty; paid off by persons’ unknown.
Slapped by reality, Bobby is determined to investigate the killing. He’s set on finding the one who did this. Only one problem, he doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing.

Cody Hoyt, while a brilliant cop, is an alcoholic struggling with two months of sobriety when his mentor and AA sponsor Hank Winters is found burned to death in a remote mountain cabin. At first it looks like the suicide of a man who's fallen off the wagon, but Cody knows Hank better than that. Sober for fourteen years, Hank took pride in his hard-won sobriety and never hesitated to drop whatever he was doing to talk Cody off a ledge. When Cody takes a closer look at the scene of his friend's death, it becomes apparent that foul play is at hand.

Nate knelt beside the dead girl. This wasn't his first homicide, it wasn't even the first dead prostitute he'd investigated. It wasn't the first strangling death he'd been assigned to. But this one bothered him. Maybe it was her youth; she appeared to be in her early twenties. Maybe it was her looks, as death had yet to rob her of her beauty. Maybe she reminded him of his own daughter, Lizzie, who was only a few years younger. Maybe it was something else entirely.

Story
Alan Gregory is a clinical psychologist with a thriving practice in Boulder, Colorado. His life begins to unravel when one of his female patients is found in an apparent suicide and the local paper begins printing accusations from an unnamed source of sexual impropriety between the woman and Dr. Gregory. He launches a psychological and personal quest for the truth that rapidly intensifies when more of his patients die untimely deaths, and Gregory suspects not only that the deaths are related but that another one of his patients may be somehow involved. Lacking facts but roused by suspicion and troubled by seemingly random acts of terror around him, Gregory starts to fear for the safety of the people he loves. The question of the inviolability of confidential disclosures made to Gregory by his patients - privileged information - becomes crucial as the psychologist pursues an unsettling romance with Lauren Crowder, a lovely deputy district attorney investigating one of the deaths. Bound to silence, Gregory follows the psychological tracks of someone he fears may be a cunning and disturbed killer, while turning to his enigmatic but supportive partner, Diane Estevez, for counsel, and to his tart-tongued female urologist neighbor for support. The sinister, surprising drama unfolds against Boulder's Rocky Mountain backdrop, in the arresting natural beauty of Aspen, and in the midst of a baroque Halloween costume party in downtown Boulder. Finally, in a lonely mountain lodge enshrouded in menace, the story comes to its breathtaking climax.

Baseball may be America’s official favorite pastime, but for Martha Rose and her friends, quilting is far more fun… and a lot less dangerous. What’s happening in Acker’s Gap, West Virginia? Three elderly men are gunned down over their coffee at a local diner, and seemingly half the town is there to witness the act. Still, it happened so fast, and no one seems to have gotten a good look at the shooter. Was it random? Was it connected to the spate of drug violence plaguing poor areas of the country just like Acker’s Gap? Or were Dean Streeter, Shorty McClurg, and Lee Rader targeted somehow?

Bad Boy Bobby and the spirit of Montana
This is a new series by the author and book 1 did not disappoint. Rodeo bad boy, Bobby Trent is having a bad day...he’s broken 3 fingers in his hand at the rodeo, then gets into a fight at the local watering hole...then gets arrested for assaulting an officer. The arrest in itself was hilarious especially when he told one of the sheriff’s deputies that her taser would be like a tickle...yea, he came out on the losing end of that one! Bobby ends up in lockup, where the sheriff sentences him to spend 10dys. Is that really legal? Turns out that Sheriff Trent is giving his adult son something of a time-out to get his head together. Then things start spiraling out of control...a damaged tractor trailer shows up for repairs in the small Montana town and it’s loaded with heroine. Sheriff Trent does not want the negative press that will come with calling in the FBI and DEA and is trying to determine a quiet way to handle this. Except the trailer is burnt out...then the feds swoop in and start questioning the sheriff...suspecting that he’s been turning a blind eye to drug smuggling through his county. All this occurs while Bobby is in lockup and then he gets the worst possible news...his dad is dead and the feds believe that he committed suicide!
Bobby finally gets his act together and, with the help of his Native American blood brother, ex-gf-now-attorney, and deputy Nixon, begins his own investigation to clear his dad’s name. Drugs and bad guys meet Bobby head on...who will win this deadly game?
As I said earlier, fantastic start to the series, with great narration, and I look forward to more.

Couldn't put it down!
I started this book and I was hooked from the get go. I loved Bobby's personality, his bad boy attitude and the eventual understanding of who he was raised to be. Unfortunately, it took his dad being murdered for that to come to him. Made me sad when he felt that he disappointed his dad and couldn't make amends for it. The developing relationships within the characters was enjoyable to read.
I actually listened to the audio book version and enjoyed it very much with Paul McSorley at the helm. Paul McSorley is a master at storytelling and he makes this listener believe every word.
I highly enjoyed this book.

The Budding Genius of Kwen Griffith
Kwen Griffith captures my attention and artfully guides me throgh his stories. Over five years I have read and listened to Mr. Griffith's stories, usually narrated by Paul McSorley. Few writers have honed their story telling to such a degree. I am waiting for the transfer of these works into screen plays or scripts for a broadcast series so that more people can enjoy the gift of his writing. Heroes with real flaws and strong villains provide conflict and grip my attention leaving me hungry for more. Impatiently waiting for the Audible version of Book 2.

A wonderful book!
This book flowed by, like watching a great movie. I was so into the story that it seemed to fly by, leaving me wanting more. I can’t wait to listen to the next book, to see where the story goes from here. I thought I had the whole thing figured out early on, but the author spun a web that traps you and keeps you suspended. By the time I reached the end and it all came together, I was happily surprised that I was wrong in my assumptions. Very well done. If you like a good mystery this is your book.

awful
this book is nothing more than a very bad attempt to copy the Longmire series. The story line is awkward, the characters are stereotypical, and the author tries way too hard to incorporate native American mysticism into the story.
Possibly, the only thing worse than the story is the narrator.

Cowboy logic and common sense prevails again!
This book kept us spellbound with all the imagination and twists and turns!! We love the history in it and the unorthodox way of this father disciplining his adult son. We could use a little more of that in this day and age. Sometimes people who have experienced life for the good and bad have more common sense than the book learned and educated people. I would recommend this book to anyone!!! Thank you for another great cowboy and Indian story!! Can’t wait to read the next one!!!!
