About this listen

Fans of Star Wars and Divergent will revel in internationally bestselling author Veronica Roth’s first title in a stunning new science-fiction fantasy series.

Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power – something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.

Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive – no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. Will they help each other to survive, or will they destroy one another?

Carve the Mark is Veronica Roth’s stunning portrayal of the power of friendship – and love – on a planet where violence and vengeance rule.

pleasantly surprised

To be honest I started listening to this book just because I wanted to hear Austin Butler's voice 😘 but then I became invested in the story. The world building is rich, the magic system is unusual but very interesting, the characters are likeable, the plot is getting thicker and thicker. I'm immediately jumping to book 2. 😀 And Austin is divine 😍

Great book

What made the experience of listening to Carve the Mark the most enjoyable?

So well read, bringing the characters alive, just as I imagined them in the book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Akos, the main male character in the book is loyal, wise and dependable.

Which character – as performed by Austin Butler and Emily Rankin – was your favorite?

Cyra was brought to life for me by Emily Rankin.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Since she was 8 seasons old Cyra has endured the gift of pain, a pain that only the enslaved Akos can ease. Both carry marks carved into their skin, one for each person they have been forced to kill. While fighting against the tyranny of Cyra's older brother together they learn that the condition of monstrousness doesn't have to be permanent.

Okay

I enjoyed Veronica Roth's Divergent series but I must say I found this one difficult to get into. The idea is good but I just cannot seem to want to care for these characters. The premise is rather obvious - romance between the opposite sides. R&J stock just in space.

Given up on this

Listened to over an hour but I've given up on it - boring, no idea who is who or who is doing what to whom, totally confused, not worth investing any more time. Not sure if its the narrator, but I can't tell any difference between the characters
