An encouraging story of overcoming
I had not read any reviews about this book before listening. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. Mr. Bowditch had trial after trial. He worked his whole life by the ash breeze and was never becalmed. He lived honorably and was kind to others.

Such a wonderful true story
Wonderful book. Well read except for some pronunciation of names. The story of a man who used his gifts to eventually change navigation for the better despite difficulties. Well worth a listen.

Very encouraging story!
My oldest and I listened to the book for her schoolwork. She is learning Latin, so it was neat to hear how Nat was teaching himself Latin. I loved how the story was set during the birth of our country.

A great story with an important lesson on perseverance
This is a fictionalized biography of Nathaniel Bowditch, who helped transform navigation into a science. At age 12, he is sold as an indentured servant, dashing his dreams of going to Harvard. Rather than giving up, he continues his studies of mathematics in private. Once he is free from his indenture, he becomes a sailor, and makes great discoveries in the field of navigation.
The book contains an important lesson on persevering through life's setbacks and mishaps. Although written as a book for juveniles, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
