Story
Joni had always been fascinated by the history of her family’s old antebellum plantation. Her ancestor’s journals were filled with stories, many involving two slave girls, the older of whom was deeply involved in the “red magic” of the Bokors. When Messalina returns from the grave on a quest of vengeance, Joni must confront the wickedness of her own family’s past, while also embracing a truth even more ancient—that she is descended from a line of Druids. Joni is the only one who stands between Messalina and her insidious plans.

Story
There is the Cornwall Lamorna Ash knew as a child – the idyllic, folklore-rich place where she spent her summer holidays. Then there is the Cornwall she discovers when, feeling increasingly dislocated in London, she moves to Newlyn, a fishing town near Land’s End. This Cornwall is messier and harder; it doesn’t seem like a place that would welcome strangers. Before long, however, Lamorna finds herself on a week-long trawler trip with a crew of local fishermen, afforded a rare glimpse into their world, their warmth and their humour.

Story
At the turn of the 22nd century, scientists make a breakthrough in human spaceflight. Through a revolutionary method known as somaforming, astronauts can survive in hostile environments off Earth using synthetic biological supplementations. With the fragility of the body no longer a limiting factor, human beings are at last able to journey to neighboring exoplanets long known to harbor life. A team of these explorers, Ariadne O’Neill and her three crewmates, are hard at work in a planetary system 15 light-years from Sol, on a mission to ecologically survey four habitable worlds.

Great story, great narration
Carly and Otis combined the kind of stories that interest your heart and your brain! The relationship between animal and human is fascinating, and the eco message is really something to think about. Narration was excellent. He kept the story flowing beautifully with great inflection, and voice changes that were neither too subtle nor too much. I highly recommend this Audible selection.

Hopeful story, great narrator!
I am a regular listener of audiobooks and the narrator can really make or break the experience. Christopher Sapienza tells the story with the wonderful use of his soothing voice while still infusing lots of personality into the different characters. I find the story a hopeful one about the possibility of humankind turning around climate change if we only listen to what the earth's creatures are telling us. * I was given a free download code for writing this review.*

A whale, some mindreading, and a whole lot more
I did receive a free audio download. While I rarely use audio downloads (as this older woman prefers books to hold as she is reading), I found this an interesting experience. The story, however, meandered a bit too much for me. There are so many elements in it that I found myself wandering sometimes. And I was never quite sure who this was written for - what age groups might find this compelling enough to do the hard work of listening. However, it is with the structure and content of the book that I find a little fault. The narration never got in the way of my understanding. Indeed, I rarely noticed it and that is what, in my professional opinion as a writer, actor, and sometime narrator myself, makes for an excellent job. It is often the case that the narrator churns out accent after accent, varies tempo and tone too much, and that impedes the smooth reading of a story. This was not the case here.

A Story to Inspire
A great story, touching and raising awareness and whenever it speaks to a special connection to these amazing creatures it made us aware of a connection to them within us. Great audible reader too. A voice soothing and peaceful while bringing the characters to life.

Interesting eco-fiction
Carly and Otis in an engaging and informative piece of eco-fiction. The characters are well-rounded and likable. I had never listened to an audio book before and did not expect to easily be able to identify which character was which, but the narrator did a great job of differentiating everyone with unique voices. Looking forward to part 2!

Entertaining Eco-Fiction
Great story for middle grade and young tweens. Nice blend of climate science and the human-animal connection. Sure to inspire conversations! The reading performance is a delight and enhances the story. The different voices/accents were great.

Loved it!
This was my first audiobook. I absolutely loved the story and the smooth, rhythmic voice of the narrator. What a great lesson it told at the end. We all need to take care of each other and our planet earth.
I didn’t want it to end!

Carly &Otis : Save the world
I enjoyed listening to the story as narrated By Christopher Sapienza . He made each character come to life and painted a vivid image for your imagination. The story line was not far off what is happening in the world today and gave us all food for thought. I received a free download mthank you I will recommend this book to my older grandchildren .
