About this listen

From Liliana Hart's New York Times best-selling MacKenzie family comes a new story by best-selling author Avery Flynn....

"Being one of the good guys is not my thing."

Bianca Sutherland isn't at an exclusive Eyes Wide Shut-style orgy for the orgasms. She's there because the only clue to her friend's disappearance is a photo of a painting hanging somewhere in Bisu Manor. Determined to find her missing friend when no one else will, she expects trouble when she cons her way into the party - but not in the form of a so-hot-he-turns-your-panties-to-ash former boxer.

Taz Hazard's only concern is looking out for himself, and he has no intention of changing his ways until he finds sexy-as-sin Bianca at the most notorious mansion in Ft. Worth. Now he's tangled up in a missing person case tied in to a powerful new drug about to flood the streets if they can't find a way to stop it before it's too late. Taking on a drug cartel isn't safe, but when passion ignites between them, Taz and Bianca discover their hearts aren't bulletproof either.

This was my first book by this author.

I enjoyed the voices of both narrators. When their separate narrations were put together the shift from one voice to the other was sometimes a bit abrupt - not their fault but the fault of the final editing.

This was a quick listen coming in at just under 3 hours. I like this length of story because it's usually easy for me to finish in one evening.

The sex in this story is smoking hot but things moved along awfully quickly. At the time I borrowed this from Audible's Escape program I didn't know that it was the beginning of Avery Flynn's B Squad so I was a bit surprised with the sort of cliffhanger ending.

The story for the main couple ends with an HFN but there is a lot left unresolved. The B-Squad Series sounds interesting.

Fast Paced, Thrilling, and Sexy Ride!

Bullet Proof by Avery Flynn is an exhilarating and sexy joy ride that had me engaged from start to finish. When Bianca walks into Taz's gym asking him to make her 'bulletproof', he figured she was just another spoiled rich girl. Except the more they trained together, the more their attraction grew into something combustible. When they both get mixed up in a dangerous situation trying to save a friend of Bianca's, they have to trust each other to stay alive. Taz and Bianca may come from different worlds, but they are definitely kindred spirits. They are both strong and competitive, contributing to their growing and very passionate relationship and their chemistry is off the charts.

Both narrators are new to me and I thought they were perfect for Taz and Bianca. The first thing that came to mind when I heard Noah's voice was Sgt. Joe Friday from an old show called Dragnet. His voice, cadence and intonation was perfect for a thrilling mystery. I also thought Carly did a great job as a cultured, feisty, determined woman, out to save those in need. Both narrators added to the excitement and steaminess of this story.

This quick listen is fast paced with the perfect blend of intrigue, danger and steamy passion. This is a wonderful start to the B-Squad series!

Unsatisfied by fast finish in tribute novella

Apparently, there’s a whole series about the MacKenzies written by Liliana Hart. It feels like her ladies book club got together one afternoon and each one wrote a tribute novella to that series. I listened to the one C Harber wrote, combining her Delta series with the MacKenzie series, and liked that one.
But this one was just okay, and I would have regretted paying for it. I borrowed this as part of my Audible Escape subscription, so it was an acceptable “free” three hour ride.
At three hours, we rush through a storyline that could better support a 7-8 hour length. I liked the basics: Bianca joins a rough n tumble gym to toughen up and go under cover in a sex club to investigate the disappearance of an old girl friend. Taz instructs her, to make her “bullet proof” (the title of the book not at all subtly laid out) and then goes all alpha male when he discovers her in the sex club. They get together quickly and explicitly ( our author really likes to talk about precum), and -lightning fast - are both investigating Bianca’s missing friend. Other supporting characters seem fun (Keel and Yang seemed poised for their own novella). And then as quick as everything gets going, Taz and Bianca are in love and the missing friend story ends with a cliff hanger. Yup, the word of the day here is quick : quick sex, quick plot, quick love.
I bumped the narration to 1.25 because of the female narrator. Made the male narration a bit fast, but it fit the “action” based plot better. Male narrator sounded a bit too middle aged hipster for Taz’s supposed boxer bruiser, but I did like his narration of Keel and Lang. Narration by some of my favs might have bumped up the writing a bit(Jacob Morgan, Paul Weber, Shane East or even Sebastian York), but it still seems like the author needs work on pacing and character development.
