About this listen
Have you ever been in love? Falling in love is the easiest thing in the world. The difficult part comes later, when you are trying to stay in love.
Half of all marriages in the United States end in divorce. As it turns out, failing in love is just as easy as falling in love.
Enter our experts, Professor James Pawelski, cofounder of the world's first degree program in positive psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, and his wife, Suzann Pileggi Pawelski, writer, consultant, and positive psychology expert.
Together, this husband-and-wife team will share vital insights and practical steps for developing long and harmonious relationships in an inspiring 12-lesson course, Building Love That Lasts. Using scientifically-based research from positive psychology coupled with ancient wisdom from ancient Greek philosophy, our experts take us on a series of visits to what they call the Relationship Gym™.
Just like building a healthy body at a fitness gym, you will need effort, consistency, a willingness to try new things, and expert guidance to get the full benefits from this Relationship Gym™. Here, you will learn about what James and Suzie call “Aristotelian love” and how it differs from the more common concept of soulmates.
All of this will help you discover how to use positive psychology to enrich your relationships. Our experts focus on four research areas to guide you in your quest for lasting love: passion, positive emotions, savoring, and character.
Whether you are looking to start a relationship off on the right foot, weather difficult times, reignite the passion, or transform a good duo into a great one, Building Love That Lasts will offer you a healthy view of human connection and give you science-based tools to create the enduring, loving relationship you want.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Recent statistics suggest that nearly two-thirds of Americans regret not planning properly for retirement. We tend to underestimate the key factors of retirement planning: our total lifespan; the probable length of our retirement; and, perhaps most significant, how much money we’ll need to fund those years in retirement. In fact, retirement planning can feel so overwhelming that many of us put off thinking about it at all until it’s too late to make the necessary changes.

Why are we capable of having such strange dreams? How can metaphors in our language hold such sway on our actions? As we learn more about the mechanisms of human behavior through evolutionary biology, neuroscience, anthropology, and other related fields, we're discovering just how intriguing the human species is.

Most Americans these days consider entrepreneurship to be a good career. More than half of all American adults will start at least one business during their working life. Due to the shutdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic, working from home became a common practice that many Americans would like to see as a permanent work option. This means that if you’re like most Americans, you’ve either already started your own business or you’re seriously considering it. If so, you’ve definitely come to the right place.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

I really enjoyed listening to the narrators. I can tell they have a good relationship, and it reflected in the course. They’re very knowledgable about a lot of things and they delivered the lecture as if I was just listening to a couple having a nice conversation. Wish they would do more.

Couple’s and Personal Growth Tips You Can Use
I loved listening to Suzann and James and have been using their science-based advice to help improve myself and my relationship. I thought the concept of this course — basically, the psychology of love, taught by two psychologists who are in love — was such a cool way to do it. A typical chapter starts with an idea for relationship growth rooted in psychology and sometimes philosophy, then says how you can use it as an individual, then brings it to bear on romantic relationships. I liked that structure and thought the tone of the lectures was very positive and fun to listen to. I recommend this course!

Wonderful Practical and Informative Series
This short lecture series was packed with useful insights that could easily be applied directly to relationships. I also really liked that it was a husband and wife giving the talks. Both explicitly and implicitly they mirrored how to have a good relationship throughout their talks, and each episode ended with a useful assignment to practice with your significant other. I am amazed that this series only has 4 ratings right now. I hope more people find out about this series. I think it could help a lot of relationships.
