About this listen

One unexpected pregnancy is a drama; fifty thousand is citywide hysteria. Cursed with endless drowsiness, Enchantress Hiresha sleeps more than she lives. Since she never has had a chance to raise a family, she sometimes feels like every woman is pregnant except for her. This time, she is right.

From virgin to grandmother, all the women in her city have conceived. A lurking sorcerer drains power from the unnatural pregnancies, and Hiresha must track him by his magic. Unfortunately, her cultured education in enchantment ill equips her to understand his spellcraft, which is decidedly less than proper. The only person uncivilized enough to help is the Lord of the Feast, a dangerous yet charming illusionist. Associating with him may imperil Hiresha's city, yet refusing his help will allow the sorcerer to leech godlike power from the mass births.

slow and boring until the end

I am not sure if it was the story, reader, or both but this story just drug on and had little to capture my attention until the last few chapters.

It was very difficult when transitioning between dreams and awake. Sometimes I felt like time twisted in on itself and I would get lost for a paragraph or two.

I will not finish the series and will be returning this book.

A feast of the imagination

No, really, imaginations will be feasted upon in this book's refreshingly original tapestry of magics and their practitioners.

Enchanting

Elements of mystery, a well thought out and beautifully described magic system. clean world building that does not over shadow the story. the protaganist is unconventional and maybe not wholely likable, at first. She suffers from narcolepsy perhaps speed up the audio only slightly to overcome portions where the narator sounds sleepy if that effects you. the antagonist and resolution of the main plot was unlike familar fantasy, in a good way. Something very tangible about this story. I have read other books in the series. This one is still my favorite. hidden 💎 pun intended.

Will put you to sleep

Would you try another book from A. E. Marling and/or Henrietta Meire?

Most likely not

What was most disappointing about A. E. Marling’s story?

The character had some sort of insomnia issue and was constantly falling a sleep an only in her mind while sleeping could she be normal. With all the drowsy talking it was difficult to get through the book. I fell a sleep many times before I finally could finish it and the evil person was to easy to figure out before the end of the book.

Unless you are looking for a book to put you to sleep, this is a difficult story to get through.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Narrator did a good job portraying the woman who simply could not stay a wake, so well I could not stay awake. Honestly, I don't know how she stayed awake in telling it.

What character would you cut from Brood of Bones?

honestly, it needs a rewrite
