About this listen

Jacky Leon is a member of the strongest werecat family alive; a family that commands the loyalty of every werecat that walks the face of the earth. Her family is the definition of power, and none have dared challenge that for millennia. It’s not a legacy she’s comfortable with, but it’s the one she’s been given, and Jacky is resolved to do her best with her new responsibilities.

When rogue werecats begin to test Jacky’s territory, paranoia mounts as questions go unanswered and lives are potentially at stake. The greatest werecat family of all time is about learn a valuable lesson, and Jacky is going to have to suffer the most before it’s through with them.

Loyalty is worthless when it’s broken.

Lost Sleep

This is one of those books that made me force myself to go to bed. I kept saying ‘a few more minutes.’ Finally, at 1 AM in the morning I decided that Jacky wasn’t going anywhere; she’d be right where I left her the following morning. This Series seems to get better and better.

Another great one in the series

This is the 3rd book in the series and I can’t wait to listen to more. You get a better idea of how Jacky’s family works and who everyone is and you get to watch how Jacky’s character grows. I’m really enjoying listening to this series!

Good, Just Missing Something

If I've gotten this far, it's most likely I'll finish this series, so nothing to worry about there. With that in mind, please understand that the next part of my review is just what I would like to see more (or less) of. If I didn't like the series this much, I wouldn't spend time finding out what's keeping me from putting it in my top 10.

1. The is a large world. There are werewolves. Werecats. Vampires. Fairies. Werekitsunes. Witches. And many other supernatural creatures that roam the land. When these beings (who aren't werewolves or werecats) are introduced, they are barely explained or utilized throughout the text. Sure, we get to interact with a fairy in the first book, but do we get to speak with him again? No. Sure, his gift is used through the series, but we never really get any follow-up from him. As for the half-witch from the first book? She's gone. I actually forgot about witches until the end of this book. And yes, we got vampires in the second book, but the type who are introduced as enemies and without morals. There are civilized vampires out there--these are the people I want to hear more about. I suppose the short of it is, the world is literally at the tip of your fingers but we've barely interacted with it. I feel as though we are just skimming on the surface and I'm getting antsy.

2. There is a pattern in this writing style that I can't "unsee" now that I've caught on--there's a lot of repetition to solidify points. Example: Jacky does something and explains why she does it to readers. Another character comes in and is angry at Jacky for doing that something. Jacky then repeats the same reasoning why she did something, gets angry about it, and then the other character is like--oh! Okay, I get it now. And then the other character finds more characters and repeats Jacky's story all over again. That group then has their own aha moment, and the process continues. This particular framing device occurred frequently in the second book but still lingers in the third.

3. I feel like this book would have been better as the 2nd one. That way there were direct circumstances from the first book. By introducing this plot point right now, it just feels too late. And I know that family bonds are stronger and relationships are better here, but it felt like the second book was just filler to get to this one. Or if there had to be a second book that focused on family ties, I wish the plot really had been concerning book one's consequences instead of a hive of unruly vampires.

4. The first part of this book was slow. No getting around that. We are introduced to two characters that end up not being permanent to the story around halfway through. In fact, all that these two characters did, all of their hard work, literally goes into flames. What was the point of having them come in if their characters weren't going to be utilized in the rest of the story?

Okay, those were my gripes or the thoughts that just wouldn't leave my head while listening to the audiobook. Here are a few quick reasons why I will keep reading because, heck, I'm already sad that I have to part ways with Jacky.

1. Loving the slow burn romance. I think Heath and Jacky are totally adorable.
2. I like seeing and learning more about Jacky's werecat family.
3. Very excited that we may see more of Jacky's human family in book 4.
4. When there's action in this series, it's always very engaging and fast-paced.
5. Love Jacky 10/10

Ready for the fourth book! Too bad audible doesn't have it yet :-(
