I simply love reading/listening to Anne Perry's books. She is so descriptive I feel like I'm in Victorian London right along with the characters. I have to go and start the next one now.

I love these books!

Need I say more. OK I love this series. It addresses social values etc in every book. I feel the books help me think about what the world was like in a very good way. It's a great mystery first, but it opens the world to us all.

I love this series

I'm working my way through this series. As always, Davina Porter's narration is a joy to listen to. The book itself seems to drag and to repeat. There seem to be several passages going over basic establishing information throughout the book. It's almost as though the editor and perhaps the author had set the work aside for a while and then returned to it. I guess if I was reading this as a book and did the same it would not be as noticeable. A tighter story would have been more enjoyable and suspenseful. It did help to speed up the narration to 1.3.

The book drags... get on with it

These mysteries are addictive and this one did not disappoint. The brilliant narration only added to the story. Step back to the 1880s in all its beauty and ugliness, guided by the endearing characters Anne Perry created in Charlotte and Thomas Pitt, Emily and the intrepid Aunt Vespatia.

Another delicious story and remarkable narration!

This was a challenging listen due to the storyline and the sad truth this still goes on today. Children are so vulnerable and the author handles with sensitively.

Could not have figured this out until Neil the end but it did end with justice

Truths

This was my least favorite of this series so far. There were parts of the story where I felt Perry spent too much time and detail in the telling and then there were other key elements of the story that felt like they were just slipped into the tale.

A little dark, but enjoyable

I was disappointed with the ending. There was a lack of connection. It was almost like you had to finish. It was abrupt. I wanted more.

Unfulfilled Ending

Perry’s Bluegate Fields depicts the seedy side of London’s late 19th century world with historical accuracy in another compelling story - a must read!!

Another Great One!

There are so many books written, to read one twice isn't necessary. That's NOT true!

Worth reading again and again.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this audiobook. The characters, the plot and the narrator kept me thoroughly entertained.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bluegate Fields?

A memorable moment happened when Pitt’s police chief loses patience and control.

Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to Davina Porter’s narration before. Each character she takes on, whether male or female, high or low class, is so well performed that I forget that she is the sole narrator. Her dramatization of the numerous personaities in Bluegate Fields is especially excellent.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

When a working class cop and a society dame join forces, criminals beware. (That would be a better tag line if the scene took place in the 1930’s rather than the 1890’s. But, you get the idea.)

Any additional comments?

The storyline involved child abuse and homosexuality, with the latter a crime at the time. I thought the author handled the subject well. Nineteenth century society is in agreement that same sex relationships are abhorrent, but the author allows some individuals to speculate beyond the sexual act. Though they do not condone it, some compassion is expressed for those who have homosexual desires and have no legal way to express them.

My only criticism is that the final scene felt a bit rushed. Pitt guesses at the reaction and future of the prisoner, rather than letting us be there when the prisoner actually learns his fate. I wondered how this knowledge would change his outlook on life.
