About this listen

A Space Wolves Novel

Sent to defend an important shrine world against the plague-ridden Death Guard, the Space Wolves clash with pious allies who see them as little better than the enemy they fight.

Liston to it because....

It's a fresh look at the Space Wolves, focusing on pack dynamics and their relationship with the wider Imperium—plus, of course, plenty of savage action!

The story:

The feral warrior-kings of Fenris, the Space Wolves are the sons of Leman Russ. Savage heroes, few can match their ferocity in battle.

After half a century apart, Space Wolves Ingvar and Gunnlaugr are reunited. Sent to defend an important shrine world from the plague-ridden Death Guard, the Grey Hunters clash with the pious Sisters of Battle—who see the Space Wolves as little better than the enemy they fight. As enemies close in around them and treachery is revealed, Gunnlaugr and his warriors must hold the defenders together—even as hidden tensions threaten to tear their pack apart.

Written by Chris Wraight. Narrated by Andrew James Spooner. Run time approx. 13 hours 39 mins.

Just great

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story very much. The narrator completely drew me in with his mastery of inflections and emotion for each character. I will keep an eye out for the next book. Thank you

great listen

Keeble knocked it out of the park like always. Great book all around. I laughed out loud a few times from the Wolves banter. The way the old man running faster than the charging army because of the younger one breaking something was written had me almost in tears.

Chris Wraight is an awesome Space Wolves writer

As a first book in a series, this book works well. I thought it bogged down in a few places but things really pick up well once the siege of the city starts and the characters are well developed and different enough from each other that they feel authentic and distinct. The second half of the book is action packed after a slow at times first half and everything that happens feels at least somewhat important to the story and its various interlacing plot lines. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to any fan of the Warhammer 40K universe.

What is a Space Wolf?

I tried really hard to like this book. There is too much internal strife and political undertones. The idea that Space Wolves would hold a grudge about something like this is not how I understood them. The main character was recommended to serve with the Inqusition and their leader approved it. So when he returns to the Fang, the guy who took over the pack was bitter about it. I don't really see the SW acting like what happens in this book. They would have accepted the orders of the pack leader. The attempt at sexual tension between the main character and the liaison was forced and not something I equate with Space Marines. There are flashes of SW in the book, of the wildness in the way they fight, some of the ways they interact within the pack, but everything else doesn't fit in my opinion.

Squad drama

This book is basically going over the struggles of being in a space marine squad. Members butting heads and working things out. Shows the range of personality between every individual space wolf. (They’re not all just big killing machines) well they are but there’s more to it! Hahaha. Good book. it’s not one of my favorites but still loved it. Of course I recommend, it’s 40k!

I hope there's a sequel

normally don't like reading space wolf stories because I find them to be a tad contrived. However, this one is pretty solid.. Space Wolves versus plague Marines actually works out pretty well. The chapter's history with the sisters of battle is also interesting, and I can't wait to see how they Move with it. I think it's a pretty solid read, whether you're a wolf fan or not.
