Publisher's summary

The stakes are higher. The witches are deadlier. And the romance is red-hot. The eagerly anticipated sequel to the New York Times and Indiebound best seller Serpent & Dove is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and is an instant New York Times best seller!

Lou, Reid, Coco, and Ansel are on the run from coven, kingdom, and church - fugitives with nowhere to hide.

To survive, they need allies. Strong ones. But as Lou becomes increasingly desperate to save those she loves, she turns to a darker side of magic that may cost Reid the one thing he can’t bear to lose. Bound to her always, his vows were clear: where Lou goes, he will go; and where she stays, he will stay.

Until death do they part.

Don't miss Gods & Monsters, the spellbinding conclusion of this epic trilogy, coming July 2021!

Excellent narration

The production and narration of this story was excellent and anyone looking to just listen to something in the background would find this a good one.

However, I felt the story to be not nearly as good as the first. Reid and Lou as characters bothered and frustrated me the entire time and it took months for me to finish the book. For a good story, I would keep looking.

Unnecessary

Really unnecessary and leaves with a confusing cliffhanger. Nothing happens very YA like. Didn’t like the ending and Morgan is still the only bad guy in the book.

The male voice actor

I loved the first book but this one was just a little much for me. So much angst and so many dumb decisions being made where in the last book it didn’t feel like that. Lou and Reid’s romance feels more forced in this book. But the absolute worst part of this is the male voice actor. My god he’s terrible I’m sorry. He sounds so grungy and raspy the whole time. It really ruined a lot of scenes and half of his accents I couldn’t understand. The female voice actress though was great so that at least balances it out a bit.

Loved the Story but...

I loved the story! but often found it difficult to listen to due to the "over acting" in the performance.

what a great sequel

this is how a sequel should. be what a great character development especially lou and Reid this is how true couple ought to be ups and down but deep down they are for each other how reid character was beautifully written to reflect his own demones and thoughts and how the suspense was gripping how the events were greatly developed how the flow between the two books was connected and easy thank you

Author's Announcement Ruined Experience

It was good, but I would have preferred if Shelby Mahurin didn't announce that there was going to be a death. I immediately assumed (right) who was going to die without knowing anything else. It took away from the experience for me since I was expecting it for months before B&H was released.

Narrators are okay. Not my favorite but I mostly got used to their voices. They did a pretty good job changing their voice for different characters. I didn't care for Maarleveld's Reid voice too much.

I think it would have been better to read, not listen to. There was a lot going on and a lot of new characters to remember.

I still liked it though! I will purchase the physical copy and see if I like it better. Right now I just feel sort of blah about it.

Eh…

It was ok. There were too many Reid POV chapters for my liking. The constant self loathing and loathing for who Lou is because she’s not who he wished she was went on for so long. Then his abrupt change of feelings. Reid is just way too upset about everything all of the time. It’s exhausting. It’s like he’s on the verge of having aneurysm. And the narrator loves to grumble and make every character sound constipated.
The female narrator is excellent though. I hope there’s far less Reid chapters in the final book.
