About this listen

Lily Yu and Rule Turner’s engagement announcement is stirring up ugly passions in the Humans First camp. There’s hate mail. Death threats. Lily’s car is vandalized. But professionally, things are going smoothly...until a lupus in Tennessee goes on a killing spree.

Then Rule's brother, Benedict, catches a lovely intruder - twice. The first time she's sneaking around the home of the leader of Humans First. The second time, she sneaks into Nokolai Clanhome with a mysterious potion.

It may not be possible to deal with the rapidly escalating situation the way Lily always has: through the law. Especially when she’s pulled off the case due to an alleged conflict of interest. Lily’s loyalties will be stretched to the breaking point when she discovers that the deaths in Tennessee were only the opening skirmish in an all-out war.

Performed by Colleen Delany, Nanette Savard, Kimberly Gilbert, Eric Singdahlsen, Michael John Casey, Terence Aselford, Matthew Bassett, Alyssa Wilmoth, Margie Tompros, Sasha Olinick, Tony Nam, Faith Potts, Matthew Keenan, Rebecca Sheir, John Dow, Michael Glenn, Nick DePinto, Ashley Strand, Matthew Schleigh, Jacob Yeh, David Jourdan, Jefferson A Russell, Deidra Starnes, Nora Achrati.

Two Thumbs Down for the Imposter Rule

I enjoyed the story quite a bit. The new primary character introduced by the author is so different from anyone else and such a charm. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about her after the initial introduction but I was sold at the end. The book also did well at showcasing more, totally new details about the Lupi. I thought it was super cool to get a deeper glimpse into the other clans.

However, after all the audiobooks leading up to this one, they changed the voice actor for Rule, which was an exceptionally unwelcome shift. The new voice actor sounds completely different from the original, and not in a good way. The original voice actor conveyed Rule's strong presence and cunning charm perfectly, balancing Benedict's dry firmness and Cullen's cheeky guile. The new voice actor for Rule sounds like Benedict turned up to 10. Half the time, I didn’t even realize it was Rule speaking until afterward. This change was a huge disappointment not only for continuity but also because the voice actor turned Rule into something less.

Challenges absolutely.

Wow!! This was one challenge after another for our gang fighting the bad guys. Add in lots of new information about magic and the lupi and even elves - another wow! No details and no spoilers here. Characters keep developing, new ones come on board (love Arjennie) and many recurring characters keep helping out (or not). The plots continue to evolve into more complexity just as the characters do. Of course, Rule & Lily and Cullen & Cynna are in all the above with a big addition of Benedict & Arjennie. This Lupi world is getting bigger. Ms. Wilks has a rip-roaring couple of action scenes (actually quite a bit of action) and for some action scenes I figuratively had to wipe the sweat off my brow. More books to read and I am off to find book 8, "Death Magic." Big smile. Also, GraphicAudio is a great way to listen to this series.

Rules voice change

the voice of rule was changed. I do not like it. it was very distracting and took away my enjoyment of the book. I loved all the previous ones.

Excellent series and narration

I am really enjoying this series. The author did a great job with the storyline, character development and the female characters are strong.
