Mediocre - possible spoilers ahead

Like other reviewers have written, the ending of this one felt very forced and all the loose ends were not tied up. It felt like there was a whole chunk of the book missing. How and why did the stroke victim become ill? The villain came out of no where and the relationship to other characters was not explained. Many facts remained unexplained. There was a mistake in the story about who was supposed to pick up the child - why every possibility wasn’t investigated was a mystery to me - and there is a shock value plotline for good measure.

Loved these characters. I guessed the why of what was going on but not the who. Well written.

A great mystery

I enjoyed this book very much and highly recommend it to those who enjoy British Mysteries. Quite the surprise ending! The narrator did a very good job.

Better than I originally expected

When I first started listening to this story, I strongly considered that I might give up and return it. I’m actually really glad I stuck with it! Although I found the dialog and the behavior of the principal character very hard to like, relate to or even tolerate, it ended up not being the deal breaker it originally seemed like it would be. It took a while to enter the world of the characters but excellent narration helped. Once you’re in, the twists and turns in the story transform this book into one that it’s almost impossible to stop listening to. And my acid test for a mystery: can I predict the ending? Absolutely not, it was shocking in so many ways. A very intelligent thriller that I expect anyone who can get past the difficulty with the unlikability of the characters will truly enjoy - its worth the initial slogging.

Ending fell flat

the story had a great premise and I couldn't stop listening to it but toward the middle it became kind of predictable. The twist at the end when they reveal the motive for the crime was unrealistic.

Unexpectedly awesome!

Slater did an excellent job, drawing you in immediately, and wanting to know more. It had great character development, easy to listen to, and follow. She makes you think! And you think you have it figured out-not! I was super impressed with the entire experience! 5 in every category. I don’t listen to mystery books often, but this one was free. So glad I didn’t pass it up! Excellent!
