About this listen

This pioneering work was the first full-length study of the role black Americans played in the crucial period after the Civil War, when the slaves had been freed and the attempt was made to reconstruct American society.

Hailed at the time, Black Reconstruction in America has justly been called a classic.

A brilliant overview of reconstruction. Du Bois uproots all academic dishonesty in favor of truth.

Magnificent

Must-read book. I wish the narrator would have read the footnotes so it was clear which sources were saying what when listening. But otherwise it was excellently done I thought.

A great read. It's so sad that Dubois is not listed among the great Sociologists of our times due to racism.

Truly a seminar work, gives details of reconstruction after slavery. I've learned so much more than any history books or classes I've taken.

PHENOMENAL history on reconstruction

The book is great for information. It's dense and captures an interesting period of time from an alternative perspective. The person reading the book does a great job of engagement despite the dryness of the material. You have to know what you're getting into before you start this adventure. This book was not written by a writer, so sometimes he'll repeat the same point in different ways, but if your focus is the information it shouldn't affect you too badly.

A SOCIOLOGIST, NOT A WRITER.

The reader grows on you and the information regarding the period of time was a revelation
