About this listen

In New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison’s most complex and nuanced adventure yet, bounty hunter and witch Rachel Morgan fights a deadly battle—mind, body, and soul.

Rachel Morgan has fought and hunted vampires, werewolves, banshees, demons, and other supernatural dangers as both witch and bounty hunter—and lived to tell the tale. But she’s never faced off against her own kind, until now. Denounced and shunned for dealing with demons and black magic, her best hope is life imprisonment-at worst, a forced lobotomy and genetic slavery. Only her enemies are strong enough to help her win her freedom, but trust comes hard when it hinges on the unscrupulous tycoon Trent Kalamack, the demon Algaliarept, and an ex-boyfriend turned thief. It takes a witch to catch a witch, but survival bears a heavy price.

Loved This Book, Hilarious and Exciting

I never write reviews but I have to say something about this book! I loved it, it is edge of your seat exciting. I couldn't stop listening, I use audiobooks for my commutes to work and when I drive around town and multiple times I found myself sitting in my carport with the car running not wanting to get out because the book goes from one exciting and hilarious scene to the next! This is Kim's Best Yet!

Worth the Wait

Okay, so maybe a year is a long time to wait for a book, but it was totally worth the wait. Can't wait for the next book to see what happens with Rachel and Al.

I don’t fully agree

First and foremost, I am extremely glad to have the original narrator back. Makes a huge difference.

Many are saying that Rachel whines to much this one but, I don’t agree. I couldn’t image being in her shoes. Always trying to make things right. Help people that make her feel useless and a nobody. Everything blowing back on her no matter what she does. She had people that love her but they are always getting hurt because the world is always coming after Rachel. She tries so hard to be a white witch but, everything and everyone has her in situations that causes her to touch the dark. She feels like the world is against her and at some points she feels alone. I don’t care how strong someone is. Wouldn’t any of us have moments where we break down? This one had me pulling out my tissues. Of course I listening to these back to back so I feel I am there with the characters. I enjoyed this one very much.

Seven books in and keeps getting better

The main reason I enjoy these books is how the characters all interact with each other. Relationships change, grow stronger or weaker with how the plot moves but the characters are the reason I keep coming back
And the narrator does a great job as always

Poor Rach

Death treats, shunnings and thieves, Oh My!

This one is one of my favorites, for sure. I love the action, and the story. How it grows and things get so out of control, but they're never that far from out of control. Why? Because Rachel is a bad ass like that. (Laughs)

What gets me is that, no one gives up. Rachel is put into a position of "I have to do this" and there is no way around it. She's got to go "black" in order to keep herself in the folds, but not let it get to her. When her shunning becomes an issue, plans are made, things are put into motion and well, the fun times happen.

When Rachel is attacked, and fights back the Coven of Morals (yeah, their assholes) decides she needs to be put away. Alcatraz has a new meaning.... locked away, scared and fighting to stay in charge of herself, Rachel has to fight hard. And she escapes.

Then she is attacked again. This time it's Lee who helps her get away. Pierce is there to be a part of her life but he is too quick to use real black magic. That's when the mission of craziness to help fight this battle begins.

Rachel is left to make choices that normally wouldn't get to her.... the choices she makes now will set into motion a fight that only she can fight. She's fighting for herself, her friends and her future.

Being different is not always bad but it's the little things that make the balance shift.... Rachel has to fight while she can.

The Hallows brought to life!

Marguerite Gavin does a remarkable job narrating these books, I actually returned an earlier book in the series due to the narrator's voice sounding like a piece of broken glass on my eardrum would feel. Marguerite successfully gives each character a distinctive sound, all reflecting the individual personalities wonderfully. I applaud her portrayal of Jynx, she gave the little pixie all of the moxy and toughness without giving him a hokey Mickey mouse squeak of a voice. Really great work bringing this amazing author's Hallows world to life!

Seriously though...I almost cried over Matalina. I read the book a long time ago, but hearing the characters voices and the pain the narrator conveys...wow
