a classic beautifully read

The classic tale of this famous fictional horse is beautifully read by one of the best readers around, the English actor Nathaniel Parker. As with all of his readings, he brings dramatic skill, sensitivity, and vocal dexterity into play once again. A treat for both child and adult, and a great gift for a special occasion (or even 'just because').

a wonderful story

I remember reading this as a child but had forgotten completely what it was all about, and found it in the library of included books with my subscription, so I decided why not listen to it. This is a very sweet story. Very simple and easy to listen to, and quite enjoyable. It's told from the perspective of the horses, which I had completely forgotten about. The narrator does a wonderful job. I highly recommend this to anyone just wanting to take a break from heavy reading and enjoy something short and light on the mind.

This book teaches biblical Christian values in such a beautiful way. It is a very special book.

Reminiscing

Oh, what glorious delight to have this classic tale reread to me by a masterful storyteller much like my beloved father 45 years ago. What a tender refreshment of a favored childhood memory.

A beautiful story

A tearjerker and lovely story from the horse's point of view. Sam and Bridget made me think. At first I thought "Poor Sam. He didn't get a Sunday off" but then he had a choice. Bridget did not and it broke her. This was the saddest part of the book for me.

well executed adaptation.

Great example of making a point with a story rather than a lecture. Acting was great. British accents understandable by Americans.

Makes me want to be a better person

How expertly written and wonderfully narrated. Anna Sewell knew a fantastic amount horses.

I've never read the unabridged version and so it's quite a lot more harsh and sad than I expected. I can barely remember what happened in the movie from years ago, but it's still heart wrenching with the detail on the mistreatment of animals.

I'd personally wait for my children to be about 8-10 years old before letting them go with this book. There's a certain level of maturity required to appreciate the depth of character and observations Anna Sewell uses.

Favorite story, a truly classic!

Well written and well narrated! A beautiful story of life and the pitfalls of animal cruelty. If I had one complaint it is that there are a couple of points where the volume drops in the recording. I did not dock stars in case the issue is with actually with my hardware.
