Iso Camartin wurde am 24. März 1944 als Sohn rätoromanischsprachiger Eltern in der Schweiz geboren. Ab 1965 studierte er Philosophie und Romanistik in München, Bologna und Regensburg. 1971 promovierte er mit einer Arbeit über Fichte und Kant. Nach diversen Lehraufträgen und Auslandsaufenthalten wurde Iso Camartin 1985 Professor für rätoromanische Literatur und Kultur an der ETH und Universität Zürich. Von 1996-1998 moderierte Camartin die "Sternstunde Kunst" beim Schweizer Fernsehen DRS. 1997 verließ er die Universität und war fortan als freischaffender Publizist und Autor tätig. Iso Camartin lebt und arbeitet in Zürich.
