Critic reviews

“Another of his trademark cocktail mixes of unbelievable tales and dark observations about the sausage grind that is the U.S. presidential sweepstakes.” ( Los Angeles Daily News)

Bad Performance mars experience.

Scott Sowers needs a different job. He is an angry grating annoyance. Great writing from HST

A Classic for One Chapter

In my opinion, the final chapter on the death of Richard Nixon is the finest piece of political writing in American history. At once hilarious, sarcastic and poignant, it is the prefect topping to this look at the election of William Jefferson Clinton in 1992. Scott Sowers does a fine job of capturing the anger and vision of Thompson's bizarre view of politics in the late 20th Century.

Grating, angry delivery ruins another story

Scott Sowers ruins another story with his angry, grating, scratchy delivery that doesn’t match the narrative of Thompson’s introspective reflections.

I loved it.

Just his dissertation on Nixon was entertaining enough. I laughed at a few parts (no spoilers), squirmed during a few others, but was enthralled through all of it.

interesting rants

He does a lot of ranting and raving. Can be depressing but if you like HST you will like it.

Couldn't listen to this performer

Scott Sowers has done a ton of audiobooks, some I've bought before. He injects a lot of personality into the work, and it can enhance the listening experience but in this case it's too much. I listened to 45 minutes of this book and after 10 minutes found I was paying more attention to the performance than the content.I know HST deserves an edgy delivery but this reading went from "edge" to strident to irritating. Listen to the sample, imagine hours of it and make up your own mind.
