Publisher's summary

Sometimes you find love in the most unexpected of places....

This is not one of those times.

Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers. The two families have been neighbors for centuries, and as a child the tomboyish Billie ran wild with Edward and Andrew. Either one would make a perfect husband...someday.

Sometimes you fall in love with exactly the person you think you should....

Or not.

There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate, and that is George. He may be the eldest and heir to the earldom, but he's arrogant and annoying, and she's absolutely certain he detests her. Which is perfectly convenient, as she can't stand the sight of him, either.

But sometimes fate has a wicked sense of humor....

Because when Billie and George are quite literally thrown together, a whole new sort of sparks begins to fly. And when these lifelong adversaries finally kiss, they just might discover that the one person they can't abide is the one person they can't live without....

The Bridgertons are back

Hooray! The Bridgertons are back! This time it's Billie, who will later become the aunt of the family we know so well. Now we know where those children got their, umm, spunk.

Billie is feisty, brave, unafraid and totally hates her neighbor, George. We first meet them as George rescues Billie from a roof with the help of his brother. G and B spar constantly and we loyal readers know this can only end one way. And it's fun getting to the HEA. Mallet of Death indeed!

This wasn't my favorite but it's Julia Quinn so it's good to start with. I thought the storyline with Arbuthnot was a bit contrived and unresolved. Maybe the author will get back to that. Because of that, I felt the ending was a bit odd.

The narration was perfect as only Rosalyn Landor can do. A delight to listen to.

I look forward to more of this new series.

Always at least one lol moment.

I enjoy all of the Bridgerton books and really got drawn into these prequels after reading one from the library. I am a big Julia Quinn fan and have a tendency to read any book she puts her name on, but I really liked listening to a story I already loved. I would like a dual narration, but this one was great. I had at least two lol moments in this book and the audible version brings it out even better.

Intriguing

Loved this story. The romance between Billie and George kept me on the edge of my seat. Each part of their relationship was built layer by layer. The intrigue. The suspense. The sexual tension.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this story. Regarding a previous review, there is much dialog and internal dialog because it is written more in the style of Jane Austen. So if you didn’t like Pride and Prejudice, you may not like this. It is a series though. The story does end satisfactorily, but it continues in the next book. I enjoyed Billie, the main character.

My favorite book

The narrator really puts the faces to the story. Makes it feel like it’s playing a movie with the words. This book was so good I’m sad I finished it in a day!
