About this listen

An entire sector in turmoil...neighbors who appear unconcerned...a favor asked of an old friend...sacrifices made for the good of humanity....

Before they can challenge the Dusahn and prevent them from expanding their empire further, the Karuzari must first gather much-needed resources. But doing so could be more difficult than anticipated.

My second listen, and one of the most fun booked in part 2. Not sure why exactly, I guess Nathan is back and it's just got a caper feel to it.

Always excellent!

I have read all of Brown’s books in the two series. I think it is best if one reads them in order. It helps to keep the characters and events arranged.

The first part of the book introduces some new characters and provides some depth to exciting personalities. The first part provides a buildup of suspense toward an event or battle. Brown weaves various plots and locations as the main plot progresses. Then the story suddenly starts moving very fast. There were some great battle scenes on land and space that had me biting my nails. The title of the book has to do with the operation of the gun ships. Nathan and associates are preparing for war. The ending of the book was a bit of a surprise. Cannot wait for the next book to come out.

The book is almost eleven hours long. Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job narrating the book. Kafer has narrated both series.

A Good Space Opera

Always an awesome book in the series but it seems like the author has slowed the progression if the story almost to a crawl to have more books come out.

Always good

This was a great addition, I am enjoying the pirate style and I can't wait for the Alliance to learn about what has been going on. Maybe this book spent a little too much time on capturing the gunships but I eagerly look forward to the next.

One of the best in the series

Love Ryk Brown's work! Start at the beginning. I did and ended up reading everything he wrote. It's not heavy stuff, but it is fun and it keeps you coming back.

Start At The Beginning!

The continuing storyline remains interesting with each book. I am not sure it is winding down yet. So we look forward to the next book.

Ongoing saga remains interesting

I love this series; it grasp your attention from beginning to end. This book, revolves mostly around focused story/event. Though, I would love to hear about a larger scale events within a book, the sheer scope and magnitude of,everything going on in the series would be dificult to capture in a single book. At any rate, I strongly recommend it, provided you follow the rest of the series.

Great Read

Sometimes when an author is in the middle of a good series and the reader has the associated high expectation a book will flop! That is the case here.

I struggled to finish this book where others in series I listened straight through.
In my opinion this was one or two chapters stretched to try and make it into a whole book. The dialogue was clumsy and forced.
I read a lot of glowing reviews for this book. They must have listened to a different book because this one isn't good.
You experience may differ. The previous books were very good. I don't know if I'll continue with this series if I feel the flop trend will continue.

What did you like best about Balance? What did you like least?

It was a great story that picks up where the last left off. I would like to see the books a little longer though.

How could the performance have been better?

Jeffery Kafer is just boring. Ugh, everyone sounds the same and it's all monotone. He isn't so bad I want to stop listening, but he is close. Find a new narrator!!!

Good story, boring narrator.

I think the author has decided to stretch this story out. 6 chapters to cover 30 minutes of time... really? Great narrator as always.

Very little progress
