About this listen

Cole Riker is a Slip Runner.

A contractor tasked with finding alien salvage in exchange for credits. For an ex-smuggler like Cole, there’s a catch: Don’t break the terms of parole. That means doing things by the book.

Find salvage, turn it in, get paid.

But everything changes when a retrieval mission lands him in a previously unknown sector. There, he finds the material he’s been sent to recover, along with something more....

A brand-new form of ancient alien life.

Such a thing could change the entire Alliance, the Galaxy, and everything between, but most of all, it could change Cole's life for the better.

A shift in humanity’s future is at hand, and Cole is the one holding the key. He just has to survive long enough to use it.

USA Today best-selling author J.N. Chaney and M.F. Lerma bring you a brand-new series. If you're a fan of traditional heroes and old school sci-fi, this is the story for you.

I liked Riker but it took him the entire book to stop being a dick. But Poe, his AI, was even worse. I liked Grey most of all and Eckert the least, he was such a jerk.

No romance and the F-bomb was used 10 times.

As for the narration: Neill Thorne did a fantastic job on the voices and his emotions.

I'll read further.

Mr Thorne is a good narrator. Each character has a distinct voice. Mr Thorne does put emotion into each situation but more would help with the character. Ruler is a renegade but he sounds like regular guy who goes to work and gets into trouble on occasion. No real grit in his voice.

Great work with character development and story progression. While fast paced it did not feel like the story was rushed. Dialogue between characters felt like ones in real life.

This book is set in the Renegade Universe (you don’t need to listen to the Renegade Series but you should as well). There are some great nods to and appearances of the original characters from the Renegade series. Like all good stories characters have high and low moments with characters owning their choices or the witty banter throughout the dialogue. Be prepared to get attached to the characters and not want to stop until you finish the whole book! Great job Molly and JN! I can’t wait for the next one!

Amazing new series!

It’s about darn time as fans of J.N. Chaney that we get to return to the Renegade Star universe. What an excellent way to pick up where Jace left off with new renegade Riker. And the bantering with AI Poe? Perfection! Poe gives me a bit of C-3PO vibes and Gray totally is a combination of Chewie and R2-D2. Abernathy and the rest of the crew compliment the story, leaving the reader wanting to get to know them more, knowing we will as the story unfolds.

Look, military Sci-fi is good. But there’s something about the rogue guy that champions for overall good and shows loyalty indiscriminately that truly delivers in the Renegade Star universe that carries over into Slip Runner.

Well done, Lerma & Chaney! More of this, please!

And the narrator? Excellent choice! I didn’t think anyone would be able to match the spirit Luke Daniels brought to the OG. But Neill Thorne just blew my mind! He was born to voice Cole Riker and continue this legacy.

Excellent! ‘Bout Darn Time

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this one! The story's very well-written, witty, exciting, and fun. I snort laughed a few times. I loved the interaction between Riker and Poe. They're super fun.

Neill Thorne was a delight to listen to. His narration was simply amazing. Well done, sir!

Great Series Starter!

I had so much fun listening to this book! It’s action and adventure all the way, with a cast of characters I can’t wait to hear more about. The narrator does an excellent job and I’ve already downloaded the next book in the series.

A zippy rollercoaster of fun

Loved it! Original story, humerus, and fantastic narration. Characters you fall in love with. This narrator can play both male and female characters very very well.

full of space and syfy easy read characters developed well but bit wordy on the feelings and tough guy vibe. although it fits well in the story the personal dialogue about the main character's is a bit predictable and redundant but well written. worth getting the next one though... I personally had to slow the reader down a bit too fast for my ear to brian connection

good story....

But once the story got rolling it kept my interest. I am starting the second book in about a minute. This looks like it will be an interesting series with interesting characters.

Slow to set up...
