About this listen

I’m about to do something huge, and it could change...everything.

I met Matt in second grade, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. We went to the same schools; studied at the same college. When we both got jobs in the same town, we shared an apartment. And when my life took an unexpected turn, Matt was there for me.

Every milestone in my life, he was there to share it. And what’s really amazing? After all these years, we’re still the best of friends. Which brings me to this fragile, heart-stopping moment: I want to tell him I love him, really love him, but I’m scared to death of what he’ll say. If I’ve got this all wrong, I’ll lose him - forever.

3.5 stars- I liked the bones of the story

Friends to lovers is a favorite trope of mine and I’ve looked at BFF a few times before because the blurb reminded me of a favorite book by another author. I recently listened to my first audiobook by this narrator, and when I saw he narrated BFF, I dove right in.

BFF has an interesting setup. The story is told from a single point-of-view, David’s, and is delivered as a chronological collection of vignettes documenting the history of Matt and David’s friendship. For the most part, this style worked well for the story. Although at first, the interwoven commentary where adult David discusses past events was a little displacing, I quickly settled into the book’s rhythm and enjoyed the story. This was definitely assisted by the lively, emotive narration by Mr. Mola. He injected personality into each scene, e.g. laughing when characters laugh, yet it wasn’t overacted. Instead, these details brought me further into David and Matt’s story.

I really liked the bones of BFF, but the pacing wasn’t my favorite. Quite often it felt as though David led the reader through rambling descriptions, often detailing things that didn’t add much to the story. While that may be an honest representation of memory recollection, it slowed the progression of the story and caused me to lose a bit of interest. I also lamented not seeing more of the building feelings and transition of friends to lovers. The underpinning was clear and the author did a fabulous job of showing, not telling, but when it came time for Matt and David to be together, it felt a bit anti-climactic and that left me disappointed. Overall, BFF was a good friends to lovers romance featuring a different style and a very good narrator.

Cute story!

Funny how it so true in real life. "It's right under your nose." For any type of relationship.

A great friends to lovers with the best narration

A different but enjoyable story experience.
We are reading/listening to a book written by David and his recollections of life since meeting Matt when they were in second grade. We go through school, separation, graduation, jobs, social and family situations. Each part with David talking about what happened and a note included from him, sometimes humorous, sometimes serious.
I really liked the way this way written. I felt like we were right there along with David, experiencing these milestones that he went through with his best friend by his side. David is adorable and adorkable. Him and Matt are so well suited together and really work as characters and friends. Their families are included with the events, both sets of parents and Matt's siblings sometimes there. They helped to make it feel like a diary entry in the way David was telling it.
K.C. Wells has made this an enjoyable story, writing it so that I couldn't put it down, constantly wanting to know the next thing and how the relationship of Matt and David has developed. She brings us into their world and I just needed to stay with them to see how things turned out. It's a friends to lovers, not necessarily a slow burn but just something we get to eventually. Very much worth the wait.
Michael Mola is fantastic in his narration. I loved this book when I read it and I can honestly say I loved it even more listening to it. He fully brings David and Matt to life, we're right there with them through all of the important parts of their lives and relationship and Michael's ability so much emotion out of the characters helps you to feel close to them and everything that they are experiencing. This is the first time I've listened to Michael narrating and it won't be the last. He truly brought out the heart and soul of David's story .
Cannot recommend this audio enough. It's a wonderful and heartwarming story with fantastic narration.

Sweet and Fluffy

K.C. Wells did phenomenal creating these characters, this books is about friends realizing they feel more for each other than friendship.
Although this story didn't have an indept hot scene, it was worth the listen, It proves that you don't always need sex scenes in a book to make it great.

Thank you K.C. Wells your fabulous work. I enjoyed this. I was hard to put it down when I started.

Thank you Michael Mola for putting a voice to the character.

i absolutely loved

i freaking love this story. My favorite K.C. Wells romance novel. It's not overly saturated with sex like most m/m romance novels. Too much sex isn't bad it's just nice to know that's there's more than that with these types of books. I will be listening to this multiple times in the future. Highly recommend.

Very good

Truly enjoyed this sweet, friends to lovers romance from KC Wells. If you are looking for something lighthearted and fun, give this one a go! Solid story with excellent main characters, it was low on the angst and pretty fluffy for a KC Wells book. Michael Mola did a really nice job narrating and I plan to explore his work further!

Best friends forever, with a twist!

I absolutely loved the premise for this book, told from David's perspective as he writes the story of his life with Matt. Childhood friends that grow together, day by day and year by year until the day they look at each other and see something different, something more. They literally fell in love with one another over two decades. The book explores their lives, two adolescents looking for turtles become teenagers that just don't understand what the big deal is when it comes to girls. High school graduates that, of course, travel to the same college and become roommates. Two young men that would do anything for the other, trust one another implicitly eventually come to the conclusion that the reason why they could never make any other relationship work is because they've already found... the one. It's the joy of walking in their footsteps on this journey that really made the story for me.

This is my first book from this narrator and I had a few issues. A few times throughout the character speaking obviously changed, but he kept the same tone which confused me. Also, he literally spoke what the Author wrote. If a character was laughing, he laughed, like, a lot, and every single time. You may think this is the narrator pulling the emotions from the characters but, not so much. At least, not for me. It didn't flow well for me in the end, actually pulled me out of the story after the fifth or so time.

Overall I enjoyed the story and would recommend.
