Ladies,
I know how things look from the outside. I'm rich. I'm a successful surgeon. I'm handsome. I should have women lining up from here to New Jersey clawing for space in my bed, but there's one huge catch: I'm f*cking awkward.
Every time I get a date, I spoil it. Asked if she's pregnant? Check. Forgot her name? Check. Bought a meat lover's pizza for my vegan girlfriend? Check, check, check.
This is why my best friend, romance fanatic Allie Jenkins, has declared that she's swooping in to save the day. She's prepared a list of required reading straight from The Ripped Bodice, and I'm supposed to take notes, learn from the best, and put that shit into action. After all, practice makes perfect, right?
Wrong.

Overall a good story. Although, there were times when I had to stop listening because Allie was too much.

The idea that Jack is this AWKWARD—albeit swoony— doctor who is unlucky in love is not even really explored or relevant. It was just an insignificant mechanism to begin this “romance academy” that never pays off because it’s forgotten halfway through. It’s as if the author forgot what the premise was and never found her way back to it.
The whole conflict with Jack’s mom is just so trite and unrealistic, I found it hard to believe this was a real obstacle they faced as a couple. Not to mention the fact that Allie’s hesitance to commit at the climax of the story when Jack finally declared his feelings felt manufactured and like it came out of nowhere. There was no shortage of miscommunication between these two throughout, and eventually it all just seemed to exist just to prolong the conflict and extend the page count.
We are told throughout that there were some unreciprocated declarations between these two pre-book timeline (Allie apparently asked Jack out on a date years prior and he said no?)… and this is NEVER explained or resolved.
It all just felt unfinished, which is a shame because there were some lovely moments that got overshadowed by the things that didn’t work.
50% loved, with a some significant issues.
