About this listen

Prior to becoming a political appointee, Augustus Pena was an assassin for National Intelligence Covert Operations [NICO]. He believed his past was behind him. Yet, when he starts to write fiction that bears a resemblance to his experiences, his former director Milken elects to silence him.

The decision to eliminate the Pena threat stems from Milken's paranoid perception that recent military intelligence tell-all books and video games have permanently damaged the clandestine community.

Targeted for assassination, Augustus must kill in the name of family, as opposed to country, to fend off the assailants in this series opener.

Twists and turns!

Good guys and bad guys and government agents. Who's who?! Held my attention throughout.

Jack de Golia did a good job narrating.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Pass on this one

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you want a very uncomplicated undetailed story this is for you.

What could O Nicholas Cicero have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

More research so that it was more believable. It was lacking in details and the technology was unbelievable in many parts. I didn't like how the story line jumped around.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jack de Golia’s performances?

No, he annoyed me but I was stuck listening since I was on a 7 hour drive with no backup book. His various voices get to be grating and annoying. He came off as cheesy. His voice for Augustus reminds me of a bad Batman impression.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Absolutely nothing, which is the problem.

Any additional comments?

There are a lot of great thrillers series out there. This is not one of them. For once I will not be keeping up on a series that I started.
