Are you fascinated by Viking lore and want to learn more about Norse myths and legends?
Are you interested in a non-dogmatic religion that preaches balance with nature, respect for ancestral traditions, and the value of self-reliance?
This book will teach you everything there is to know about Ásatrú, from its ancient roots to its modern-day revival.
Ásatrú is a religion that revives, rebuilds, and reimagines the ancient polytheism of Northern Europe. This religious movement officially began in Iceland in 1972, but new iterations of the Old Way quickly spread worldwide, and Asatru is one of the fastest-growing spiritual movements in the United States today.
Erik Hansen, the best-selling author of Norse Paganism, has created a complete yet easy-to-follow guide to walking the Asatru path and bringing the values of this ancient faith into your life today.
By listening to this book, you will have a comprehensive knowledge of these topics:
- Origins and history of Norse Paganism
- The basics of Ásatrú and why it differs from other religions
- How to walk the heathen path and become Ásatrú
- Gods, goddesses, giants, and other fantastic creatures
- The nine noble virtues of Ásatrú
- Rune meanings and how to use rune stones for divination
- Worship, rituals, and ceremonies–how to perform blót and symbel
- Viking-era symbols and their meanings
Overcome stereotypes and discover the authentic spirituality of modern heathens. Ásatrú, The Heathen Path will allow you to explore the sacred stories of the various pagan deities such as Odin, Thor, Freya, and Tyr and take a look at rituals practiced by Asatruar in their daily lives.
Ancient Northern European spiritual practices are accessible to people of all backgrounds. Discover how to connect with Norse paganism as a beginner!

The Viking Age - from 750 to 1050 saw an unprecedented expansion of the Scandinavian peoples into the wider world. As traders and raiders, explorers and colonists, they ranged from eastern North America to the Asian steppe. But for centuries, the Vikings have been seen through the eyes of others, distorted to suit the tastes of medieval clerics and Elizabethan playwrights, Victorian imperialists, Nazis, and more. None of these appropriations capture the real Vikings, or the richness and sophistication of their culture.

This book is an exploration of the wisdom in the Viking Age poem "Havamal", specifically as it relates to the average person who isn't a scholar of Old Norse, or even an enthusiast of Viking culture. This book is for the layman, the average person who simply wants to improve their life using proven advice. The poem "Havamal" is earthy, cynical, stoic, and grim in its depiction of human life. Havamal means “The Words of the High One”. The poem's speaker is none other than Odin, King of the Gods, who has traveled the many worlds seeking power and suffered greatly in his quest.

When is a story more than just a story? When does it become a myth? When it holds a piece of truth about our history, our morality, and the cosmos. Throughout history, humankind has used stories to explain the unknown. From the cycle of the moon to the changing of the seasons, tales about supernatural beings and events have served to account for the purpose of the cosmos. But mythology isn’t entirely fiction. These stories have been passed down for generations for a reason.

At the beginning of his career, Joseph Campbell developed a lasting fascination with the cultures of the Far East, and explorations of Buddhist and Hindu philosophy later became recurring motifs in his vast body of work. However, Campbell had to wait until middle age to visit the lands that inspired him so deeply. In 1954, he took a sabbatical from his teaching position and embarked on a year-long voyage through India, Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and finally Japan.

"The North" is simultaneously a location, a direction, and a mystical concept. Although this concept has ancient roots in mythology, folklore, and fairy tales, it continues to resonate today within modern culture. McIntosh leads listeners through the magical and spiritual history of the North, as well as its modern manifestations, as documented through physical records, such as runestones and megaliths, but also through mythology and lore. This mythic conception of a powerful, mysterious Northern civilization was known to the Greeks as "Hyberborea" - the "Land Beyond the North Wind".

Given the abundance of funerary artifacts that have been found within the sands of Egypt, it sometimes seems as though the Ancient Egyptians were more concerned with the matters of the afterlife than they were with matters of the life they experienced from day to day. This is underscored most prominently by the pyramids, which have captured the world’s imagination for centuries.

The poems of the Poetic Edda have waited a long time for a modern English translation that would do them justice. Here it is at last (Odin be praised!) and well worth the wait. These amazing texts from a 13th-century Icelandic manuscript are of huge historical, mythological, and literary importance, containing the lion's share of information that survives today about the gods and heroes of pre-Christian Scandinavians, their unique vision of the beginning and end of the world, etc.

A valuable addition to my library
I've been studying Norse paganism for a while now, and this audiobook was a fantastic addition to my library. The narrator's voice was pleasant to listen to, and the information was presented in an easy format. I learned a lot about the history and practices of Asatru and felt like I had a better understanding of this ancient belief system by the end of it. Highly recommend!

Valuable resource
I've been practicing Asatru for a few years now, and I found this book to be a precious resource. The author delves deep into key concepts such as the Nine Noble Virtues and the importance of community in the tradition, providing a wealth of knowledge and understanding for both new and experienced practitioners. I particularly appreciated the author's use of historical references and primary sources, which helped me better understand Asatru's roots and evolution.

Five stars
This book has been an incredible resource for me. I'm a practicing Norse Pagan and have been for about three years now. I've been looking for a good book that would give me the history of the tradition and its practices, but also how to actually go about them without having to go through some sort of complicated ritual or ceremony.

Excellent resource
This is the most comprehensive, easy-to-read introduction to Asatru I've ever listened to. It's a great starting point for someone who has yet to learn what Asatru is, but also a rich resource for those who are already drawn to the religion.

Game changer
I recently discovered this audiobook, and I have to say, it has been a game-changer for my understanding and appreciation of Norse paganism.
I had always been fascinated by the stories and mythology of the Vikings, but I had never really delved deep into Asatru's religious beliefs and practices. This audiobook, narrated by an experienced and knowledgeable guide, provided me with an in-depth introduction to Asatru's history, gods, and rituals.
One of the things I appreciated most about the audiobook was the way it was presented. The author's engaging style held my attention throughout the book. He provided a wealth of information but never overwhelmed me with unnecessary details. Instead, he broke down the complexities of Asatru into manageable chunks that were easy to understand and absorb.
Overall, this audiobook has been an invaluable resource as I continue exploring and learning about Asatru.

Modern heathenry and its practices
This book is exactly what I was looking for. It gives you all the information you need to start learning about modern heathenry and its practices, but it also gives you a good understanding of why these traditions exist in the first place. You can tell that the author really cares about sharing his knowledge with other people who are interested in learning about this tradition.
