A radical new take on Norse paganism

The Way of Fire and Ice reimagines Norse Paganism with mystical practices and rituals for today's world as well as tips for building community and resisting fascism. This approach to working with Norse deities and beliefs is a living, adaptable tradition, representing a strong alternative to the reconstructionist perspectives of Asatru and Heathenry.

In this book, the old ways come alive in a radically inclusive form. You will explore the secrets of the World Tree and the mysteries of the gods, work with the many spirits around us, and feel the deep rhythms that drive all life while creating new songs of power. You will also discover how to make these practices part of your every waking moment, developing your own personal spirituality and building healthy, sustainable communities along the way.

Very Good Book

This is a very informative book with details about the gods, and rituals. If this book is anti anything, it is against the misuse of sacred symbols for hate groups. I would highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to go down the path of Norse Paganism.

Great tool!

I very much enjoyed this book. A lot of useful tips for inter grating your practice into daily life and fighting fascism. A worthy read for anti fascist heathens.

Heathenry for a modern life

Absolutely amazing, and adept explanations of our path and the need for activism in it.

Much rings true.

As a Pagan and Eclectic practitioner, I found this book to be informative, interesting, and reasonably well written. I like how this particular sect encourages people to be active and aware of Facisim. To not be idle when you witness abuses and misinformation. A good listen for good people.

A basic “how to” guide for getting into Norse Paganism.

I picked this up mainly because I saw so many trolls hating on this book online. As someone who has been practicing Norse Paganism I was interested to see what they took offense with.

First I want to address the many reviews that call this book “left-leaning drivel” or “pro-antifa” anyone who says this is a troll, likely racist, likely a white supremacist, and most definitely not someone who understands the teachings of Heathenism. If you are anti-Antifa (i.e. a fascist) you need to take a deep look at yourself and come to see that you are supporting white supremacy, racism, homophobia, and authoritarianism. If you think Antifa is bad you need to look deeply at where you are getting your news from. Is it owned by the Murdock group…that’s a problem. Is it subscription based, npr, bbc, the guardian, or other journalistically sound sources? Then you know that Antifa is not a terrorist group.

As a pagan, I fully support the use of this book. While it is a little low on details, it has a wonderful appendix that I suggest any pagan to dive into. There are many great resources cited here, and as you grow your Heathen practice.

I really appreciate the look at declaration 127. We are an inclusive group. You are welcome as long as you don’t hate others for their ingrained traits. A person has no control over their skin color, the socio-economic status they were born into, or their sexual orientation.

Good info but dry at times.

Good info overall but unfortunately it's more a reference book than a front to back book. I gave up around the info on starting a group where it seems to repeat itself over and over.

Wonderful book.

Liked it so much I bought the physical book. Not sure what the other reviewer was talking about Antifa but whatever. I’ve been a practicing Norse Pagan for several years now, this book makes some great points and insights.

An entry understanding & a lazy narrator

Not bad, but definitely focuses a lot on distinguishing between how modern adaptations, like this path, are different from the generalized “Folk” versions since historically the folk paths have radicalized on the political extreme right towards Fascism & how Neo-Nazism, White Supremacy, White Nationalism have disguised themselves & distorted these same folk paths. There is mentioning of Reconstructionist paths, but these have a fairly to heavy hand in exclusionary behaviors which at times has facilitated the before mentioned folk path extremism to infiltrate their paths. They also tend to think in times past & are too rigid for contemporary times, meaning their practices isolate them &, again, are exclusionary in a variety of ways.

I will say that there is a fairly large section that focuses on trying to explain the magical nature of the runes & how to complete rituals or readings.

However, be ready if you know anything about pronunciation of Scandinavian words, especially in Old Norse, Anglo-Saxon, etc. In the Audio book read by Roger Clark, he does not pronounce anything relatively correctly. Roger Clark took no time & afforded no effort in trying to correctly pronounce anything other than his English script. He butchers every single rune name & the majority of the gods & goddesses. While he was easy to listen to, I found it completely annoying to hear an ignorant pronunciation frequently.

The content for what it was intended for I give the book a 4/5 since this was pretty generalized & an entry level book when researching what path may fit you.

I give Roger Clark’s narration a fat 2/5 for consistent annoyance.
