About this listen

For the Duchess, murder comes uninvited in Ardent Ascension.

Duchess Jacqueline Arienta Xavier has returned to Saphire at long last. After months of being away from her homeland, Jax is looking forward to spending her days working to better the lives of her people. Yet, shortly after her return to court, Jax receives a letter from the Earl of Croxfordshire, requesting her presence at an engagement party for the Earl's nephew, Yanis, and Lady Uma Dorrow. Happy to celebrate Uma's upcoming nuptials, Jax, Perry, and their friends set out for what is sure to be a joyous weekend full of love and laughter.

However, the atmosphere is anything but festive once they arrive at the grand Saphirian estate. The Croxfords are all on edge, and Jax begins to wonder what secrets Uma's future in-laws are hiding. Things take a turn for the worse when a man is found dead the morning after a vicious storm. With Uma's happiness at stake, Jax and her companions are determined to uncover who amongst them is a killer.

After all, it isn't really a royal affair without a mystery to solve.

Loved it

Sarah does not disappoint. Another book finished in one day. I love that there is a celebration for Uma’s engagement. My favorite part of the book was when they arrived at Uma’s future in laws home and Jax says that its so nice to have made it here with no problems. Of course that is when the oddities begin. Such an enticing mystery, I totally did not see the suspected murderer coming! I recommend to those who love mystery, intrigue, unsuspecting crimes, & family drama.

How I love spending time in the Realm of Virtues!

Romance, politics, camaraderie, secrets, adventure and of course, murder and mystery.
How I love spending time with Jax and friends in the Realm of Virtues!

This audio book begins with the recommendation to first read the short story ‘Ruined Remnants’.
I would second this. It’s a lovely story and really adds some extra insights and enjoyment to ‘Ardent Ascension’
The short story is free to read/ download if you subscribe to Sarah’s newsletter, which is highly recommended regardless of freebies, just google the author’s name to find her website!
It was so funny to notice that when reading the short story myself, I use Melissa’s pronunciations, tempo and character voices in my head.
The Court of Mystery series and Melissa’s voice are inseparably connected, and it truly warms my heart they found each other and how the one elevates the other.

This is such a great addition to the Court of Mystery series.
I love the fact that Jax prioritizes important events in the lives of her friends, even though there is so much to be done in the Realm.
Like always, one of the things I enjoyed most is the camaraderie and interaction between our friends.
I found the outcome of the murder investigation surprisingly surprising this time. I’m not terribly gifted in solving murder mysteries (I’ve only bested Jax once), but I commend anyone who can puzzle out this one before the great reveal.

The series overarching story comes to the front more and more, a development I thoroughly cheer on.
It’s so satisfying to see it all come together, and I can’t wait for the continuation of this lovely series.

I got this Audio Book for free (thanks!). I'm voluntarily leaving this review.
