About this listen

Leftöver Crack is a band of drug-abusing, dumpster-diving, cop-hating, queer-positive, pro-choice crust punks who successfully blend ska-punk, pop, hip-hop, and death metal genres. They've been banned from clubs, states, and counties and kicked off multiple record labels. They've received teen-idol adoration and death threats from their fans. They've played benefits for a multitude of causes while leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

But if you dig below the crusty, black-metal-patch-encased surface, you'll find a contemplative, nuanced band that, quite literally, permanently changed the punk rock community. By combining catchy ska-punk with lyrics that referenced political theorist Michael Parenti, drug usage, and suicide, the band formed a unique melange that was both provocative and challenging. In fact, the band's hooks were so sharp that after releasing their debut LP, Mediocre Generica, an entire culture of "Crack City Rockers" grew around the band, pushing the youth toward both the positive and negative aspects of extreme punk rock.

Architects of Self-Destruction: An Oral History of Leftöver Crack traces the band's entire history by speaking to the band members themselves, fellow musicians, their fans, and of course, those that still hold a grudge against the LoC.... FYI, that's a lot of people.

Will listen to repeatedly

This scratches the same pitch Michael Azzerad’s “Our Band Coud Be Your Life.” Stop reading reviews and start listening, don’t let the sad reality of Amazon owning this platform stop you. Say “ perhaps” to drugs, join The Satanic Temple, but CV,LoC, and SFH to stay your guilt.

thorough without being redundant

great story of a fascinating band by the people who lived it.

I feel like maybe a few of the roughest edges were sanded off but in general this was very entertaining, well constructed and thorough.
while Leftöver Crack isn't for everyone, to me they are massively underated and underappreciated.
this book goes a long way to explaining their career wrong turns but also their philosophy and how it contributed to their trajectory.
all in all I enjoyed it. and I've been registering to Leftöver Crack all week

Best autobiography of a band

Worth it! Best musical bio I’ve ever read. Brad and John compiled something epic. Read!

Fu*king Delightful.

I’ve been a fan for ages but didn’t know the history of these crusty, brilliant, madmen. This is a story of chaos, insanity, redemption and freedom. These fu*kers always got it right.

Great storytelling, engaging listen

Brad does a phenomenal job reading this very insightful, compelling, funny, provocative, entertaining, and messed up story of his life in, out, and around Leftover Crack. I highly recommend and encourage anyone who is a fan (or even not) to read/listen! Very good job.
