About this listen

The apocalypse began on Bring Your Dog to Work Day.

One moment, everything was normal. Then the World Core woke up, and slaughtered almost everything alive so it could harvest their Chi.

After that, it rebuilt everything and put the survivors in a game-like environment, pitting them against monsters and each other.

The rules are different now. Chi power is as important as being able to fight.

I'm one of the survivors. With my knowledge of martial arts and my special Chi skill, I'm turning myself into a force to be reckoned with.

This is a Western cultivation fantasy adventure. It includes a definite sense of progression, an MC who isn't an idiot, and Gamelit/LitRPG elements.

Porter, McKenzie and Hastings do a marvelous job.

The Earth is apparently a dungeon and has acquired enough chi to advance to the next level and absorbs 99.999% of all life from its surface.
So less than 300,000 people remain and need to grow stronger as fast as they can to stay alive as the Earth advances from level to level.
The humans that remain are changed to more resemble their personalities. Becoming snake people, minotaurs, twisted Lovecraftian monsters as well as elves, unicorn girls and lovely impish girls.

Humphrey, the MC's dog is a supporting character that makes this book a level above your regular books in this genre.

This is a wonderful LitRPG harem book with a light crunch to help the reader follow along with our main characters' advancing.

If you like harem LitRPG you are going to like this book.

Jack pops out another great start to a series.

first I would like to say I enjoyed the book, it's a apocalyptic litrpg book series however if you do not like sex scenes you probably shouldn't read this, however the story is interesting, there is stats screens, monsters, and magic if you enjoy litrpg with some fantasy you will love this book.

enjoyed it

Humphrey is my hero! His shenanigans in the first 2 chapters were comically inspirational. The Harbinger is a perfectly annoying, condescending A-hole. I couldn't have asked for a better start to a book. I'm just getting into the meatier parts and will update this review later. This has to be one of the best book beginnings ever! McKenzie and Hastings get 2 thumbs up for their performance so far.

Update: I finished the book and loved it. I enjoyed the way the relationships developed. Not every relationship starts with insta-lust/love. Sometimes it takes a bit for things to settle in or for people to stop fighting their feelings, their past and their issues. Also, the fact that the mc gets his but handed to him even though he's had training is more realistic that usual.

Really worth the credit.

The 1st 2 chapters had me LMAO!

very cool take on the apocalypse/cultivation genre. I really enjoyed listening to it. the stats aren't too overbearing and the mc is likable. both the narrators were great. I especially loved the male mcs Canadian pronunciation of certain words. on to book 2 and 3 is around the corner!.

why did I wait so long

Apocalypse Core is a very fun story.

The male narrator is new to me, but he did a wonderful job. Melanie Hastings once again delivers her terrific kittenish voice and imbues each of her characters with a distinctive voice.

While the story does have LitRPG/stats, it also doesn’t take itself too seriously. I loved it when a voice intoned “-7 damage, -7 damage, -5 damage” and the MC shouts “I don’t need a blow-by-blow account”! The entity “helping” guide the MC through the altered world is snarky and openly hopes our hero will die on multiple occasions!

The characters are interesting and fun, with distinct personalities, and the women have initial conflicts with the concept of sharing the MC.

A fun story with terrific narration; 5* and I look forward to book #2 in the series!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Receiving a review copy did not influence my rating or my review.

Lighthearted fun fantasy adventure story

I thought the story was good . the narration was great. thanks. somethings are slow to be explained, but that is fairly normal for suspense and intrigue. the Idea of a weak mc or mcs in this case is just weak writing. to leave an enemy alive that wants you dead not once or twice but three times? also the big fight should not have happened .
I can guess that volumn 2 will be a fight against the same foe that they should have killed twice before.
as a reader I hope they have the fight with him quick and move on to chi development and fighting monsters or a political system or do some world and party development with hardships along the way.

decent

Performance was top notch, but I found the story too predictable and somewhat cartoonish. MC is dense, AI overly snarky, cringey escape artist villain, etc. The mc’s dog is hands down best part of the book. Pure gold there.
