America’s most effective conservative intellectual proves once and for all that Marxist radicals have taken over our nation's institutions.

In the 1960s, Mao launched China’s Cultural Revolution. Cities grew overcrowded. Technocrats demanded progress from above. Anyone opposed was sent to be “re-educated.” China’s revolution was bloody, fast, and a failure, but what if America started a revolution at the same time, based on the same bad ideas, and it’s just been slower, calmer, and more effective?

In his powerful new book, Christopher F. Rufo uncovers the hidden history of left-wing intellectuals and activists who systematically took control of America’s institutions to undermine them from within. America’s Cultural Revolution finally answers so many of the questions normal Americans have, such as:

• Why is nearly every major corporation bending the knee to a far-left agenda?

• How did DEI suddenly become the department no institution can continue without?

• Why is race the main thing America’s rich, white elite wants to talk about?

• When did the left adopt all this doublespeak, saying progress is a lack of progress, equality is not equality, speech is violence, and violence is speech?

• Has the goal of the left, for a century, actually been the destruction of every Western institution?

Readers may not know the names of Herbert Marcuse, Angela Davis, Paulo Freire, and Derrick Bell, but they will recognize the ideas they spread. How their radical, destructive ideology slowly worked its way from prisons to academia to classrooms to your human resources department will come as a shock.

Failing to act soon, Rufo warns, could allow the radical left to achieve their ultimate objective: replacing constitutional equality with a race-based redistribution system overseen by bureaucratic ‘diversity and inclusion’ officials. Most Americans don’t want this, but most Americans are no longer in control of our institutions. If the mainstream media’s depiction of a failing dystopia in need of a fresh start never sounded right to you, this expose and call to arms is the book you’ve been looking for.

Well-researched, well-articulated, thoughtful analysis of the moments and influential personalities that hijacked the consciousness of many individuals and institutions in today’s American society. The book brings awareness to the fundamental ideologies, methods, and aims of the misguided cultural revolutionaries coming off the Marxist factory lines of the Universities. It highlights the nihilistic revolution’s critical flaws and makes suggestions on how Americans can meaningfully counter the movement.

Important words at a Critical Crossroads

This book is a must-read to understand how we got here in our culture today! It doesn't matter what side the political aisle you're on. It will open your eyes to our education system, government, and history. Bravo Christopher Rufo!

An absolute must read!

Describes how and why we find our selves as Americans at this critical point of decision to save our country or turn away in fear and hoping to find our selves waking from a bad dream. Only to realize later it’s to late.
God forbid!

Fascinating details on the Left's cultural revolution dating back to pre-World War II. Sheds a strong light on where Critical Race Theory comes from.

The truth shall set you free but first it will piss you off.. This book cleared a lot of stuff up for me but it was a bitter pill to swallow. It's really difficult to understand how good ideology could take hold in the greatest country on earth but here we are 🤷🏻‍♂️ Time to get back to our 1776 principles! Let's go!

Wow! This made it all make sense..

I am a liberal egalitarian, from the Rawlsian tradition. I strongly disavow Rufo’s current political campaign against universities, but really do recommend this book to progressives — if only so you can be more effectively responsive. I especially recommend it if you are (1) unfamiliar with the intellectual history of the critical theoretic tradition, and (2) unfamiliar with liberal egalitarian alternatives. Sadly, Rufo fails to discuss the latter (but political philosophers have plenty to say here, just ask your favorite LLM). This is a shortcoming, but it’s made up for by his account of (1), which is unmatched.

Rufo’s book describes how Frankfurt-school philosophy came to dominate the humanities and social sciences, then worked its way through shame tactics into progressive politics more generally. Familiarity with this history is non-negotiable. Most illiberal progressives I know are only illiberal because they aren’t aware of liberal alternatives that are (i) accepting of the genuine criticisms of injustice made by the critical theories and (ii) sufficiently egalitarian to accommodate their prosocial intuitions. I would be surprised if many remained illiberal after an honest reading of this book. It will make you uncomfortable at times, but this is the work we need to do if we want to build a bigger political tent.

Follow this up with Rorty’s “achieving our country” and then commentary on John Rawls — or if you’re brave, just read justice as fairness.

Remember, you can disagree with Rufo’s political tactics and still believe he has written a successful book. Epistemic and moral maturity are going to be critical if we American democrats want to win national elections again.

A must-read for progressives

An extremely engaging and illuminating journey through the evolution of Marxism into CRT and the impact it is having on everyone it touches. Can’t recommend it highly enough
