About this listen

The world of Krynn is ever changing, and even the gods can be taken by surprise. And if that’s true of the gods, what chance can a mere mortal have? Caught up in forces none of them could hope to face alone, a small but determined band of adventurers come together in a desperate attempt to stop an invasion. Mina, as enigmatic as ever, escapes imprisonment to set off on a quest that will test even her considerable will. All the while, evil spreads across the land, gaining ground with each new day. With so much at stake, with the very soul of Krynn on the line, champions must be found even in the darkest places.

Awesome plot and narrating

This book was so much fun to listen to. I enjoyed the different characters and the twists in the story throughout.

It definitely gets better towards the end...

Maybe I'm too critical of the DragonLance series, but it seemed to have lost its way in the last book. It was all action and adventure; not teen angst and mommy/daddy issues. This book is much better, though. It keeps a steady pace. There's much less whining. And we finally get to see some real action. I won't spoil the twist at the end, but I will say I saw it before they dropped it. It's not so subtle. Fantastic narration from Ms. Bellair.

Great story, Great narrator

It’s weird having dialogue so often from so many gods after the age of mortals. Some people don’t like it but it’s dragonlance so it’s important. Margaret Weis is truly a blessing.

HATE THE NARRATOR

The narrator makes everyone sound like a southern country singer..and I was born and raised in the south, but that's not how I imagined the characters sounding like in my mind...AT ALL.

Great story, bad voice acting

The kender is Australian? The officer in Solace is a cowboy? I don't know if Margaret Weis agreed to the accents used by the narrator, but I think these were horrible decisions. It totally ruins the fantasy of Dragonlance novels for me. I've been reading Dragonlance since 1986 (well over 30 novels) and these accents ruin my listening experience. I definitely prefer some of the other performances to this chick. I had to grit my teeth just to finish listening to this, but I did cause I love Weis and pretty much everything she does.

Annoying narrator

While the narrator is good with accents, there are too many, and people from the same place have wildly varying accents. Also, her voice, while pleasant enough, does not lend itself well at all to voicing male characters, or to the fantasy genre in general

Dazed and Confused

I am a huge fan of the Dragonlance series and the offshoots especially when Margaret Weis and/or Tracy Hickman do the writing. Having said that I am very disturbed by this series of books. I read books one and two but I have given up on book 3 because I see no need to read it.

Mina from the war of souls is one of the main characters. She and the God Chemos join together to rule the world. Takhisis was banished in the war of souls and Mina lost her faith in the god. She seemed to then be just this weak girl who could not move forward in life until another god showed her the way. This is not at all how I pictured Mina to be and totally ruined my perception. Chemos God of the dead came along and seduced Mina, promising her a new army that would have enternal life. Thus Vampires are introduced to the Dragonlance series. When I left off Mina was a God that Takhisis tricked into thinking she was human. Chemos and the other Gods were showed to have nothing but petty jealousy's that made the books seem like comedies.

The other main characters were a monk of Majere, a dog, and a Kender. I guess they are supposed to be the good that stops the evil. These three characters never stepped into the hero roles so I cannot figure out why they are even in the book. The series to my had no real story line. It seemed like Margaret was creating a large cloud that had everything and nothing. I saw no reason for the story so I found it hard to follow.

I thought the series was the work of a first time writer not the senior writer I know Margaret to be. I think this series should be scrapped and a new series should be written for Mina.
