Olivie Blake
About this listen
"At the aural epicenter, Robb Moreira and Sura Siu alternate between protagonists Aldo and Regan’s perspectives. The listener is immersed into their sharply distinct, mundane, yet complex worlds..."- Booklist
Narrated primarily by Robb Moreira and Sura Siu, this program features a cast of cameos, including one from the author.
From Olivie Blake, the New York Times bestselling author of The Atlas Six, comes an intimate and contemporary study of time, space, and the nature of love. Alone with You in the Ether explores what it means to be unwell, and how to face the fractures of yourself and still love as if you're not broken.
CHICAGO, SOMETIME—
Two people meet in the Art Institute by chance. Prior to their encounter, he is a doctoral student who manages his destructive thoughts with compulsive calculations about time travel; she is a bipolar counterfeit artist, undergoing court-ordered psychotherapy. By the end of the story, these things will still be true. But this is not a story about endings.
For Regan, people are predictable and tedious, including and perhaps especially herself. She copes with the dreariness of existence by living impulsively, imagining a new, alternate timeline being created in the wake of every rash decision.
To Aldo, the world feels disturbingly chaotic. He gets through his days by erecting a wall of routine: a backbeat of rules and formulas that keep him going. Without them, the entire framework of his existence would collapse.
For Regan and Aldo, life has been a matter of resigning themselves to the blueprints of inevitability—until the two meet. Could six conversations with a stranger be the variable that shakes up the entire simulation?
A Macmillan Audio production from Tor Books.
Critic reviews
"Alone With You in the Ether plays with narrative structure and linear time to weave a story of two broken people crashing together like comets, and we, as audience, are witness to their glorious destruction." — Tor.com

Story
On the first day, no one really noticed. All those babies wrapped in blue blankets - not a pink one in sight. On the third day, people were scared - a statistic-defying abundance of blue. Not just entire hospitals, not only entire countries, but the entire world. Boys. Only boys. Until Eve. The only girl born in 50 years. The savior of mankind. Kept protected, towering above a ruined world under a glass dome of safety until she is ready to renew the human race. But when the time comes to find a suitor...Eve doesn't only want safety and protection. She wants freedom.

Story
To the Green-Eyed Lovebird: We met 15 years ago, almost to the day, when I moved my stuff into the NYU dorm room next to yours at Senior House. You called us fast friends. I like to think it was more. We lived on nothing but the excitement of finding ourselves through music (you were obsessed with Jeff Buckley), photography (I couldn’t stop taking pictures of you), hanging out in Washington Square Park, and all the weird things we did to make money. I learned more about myself that year than any other. Yet, somehow, it all fell apart.

Story
Kerri ní Dochartaigh was born in Derry at the very height of the Troubles. She was brought up on a council estate on the wrong side of town—although for her family, and many others, there was no right side. One parent was Catholic; the other was Protestant. In Thin Places, a luminous blend of memoir, history, and nature writing, ní Dochartaigh explores how nature kept her sane and helped her heal, how violence and poverty are never more than a stone's throw from beauty and hope, and how we are, once again, allowing our borders to become hard and terror to creep back in.

Story
Most of us still live by the motto, “No pain, no gain.” But this approach to life is actually a prescription for fear, frustration, and self-doubt. Much of what we learn about success is based on the pain/gain idea: in essence, work harder, be more persistent, and develop greater willpower. The New Psycho-Cybernetics formula is anything but painful. It will allow you to achieve all your goals, faster, easier, and with less strain than you ever thought possible.

These were on top of the many other things she didn't know about babies: how to stand while holding one; how to do a poetry gig with your baby as a member of the audience; how drum'n'bass can make a great lullaby. But Hollie learned. And she's still learning, slowly.

Story
There is a lie you've told yourself since you were old enough to tell yourself lies. The lie is I'll be happy if I can just get what I want. The truth is far more complex and beautiful and powerful than that. The reality is that when we get what we want, our inner reward system turns off unless its tied to another future goal afterwards. On top of this, modern society bombards us with false narratives that confuse us about what we actually want and what we actually need. This leaves countless people lost and without direction.

The perfect circle.
The performance was a little confusing at first; primary narrators had some good bouts of bringing the characters to life, but in my opinion, there were a lot of scenes that could've been done differently.
Overall bittersweet story; one that comes to full circle.

Lyrical and mesmerizing
I honestly wasn’t sure what to think of this book. But the writing was so different than it had me hooked, yet a little confused in the beginning. Once I got used to the authors writing style, I fell in love with the characters. I am definitely going to have to go back to read this, so I can highlight my favorite quotes. What a great book it was so different and so cool I don’t even know what to say.

Complicated in a good way
This was my 1st book from by Olivie Blake. I was confused at times with the narration on who was speaking and how they were speaking. Internally or externally. I found myself rewinding a few times. To make sure I understood what and how it was being said. This was a story that needed to told and needs to be read. It gave me a lot of insight and perspective. The acknowledgment moved me tremendously. It was full of emotion and insight. I wish I would have read it first. It would have helped prepare my mind on what I was going to read. I know I will listen to again now that I understand the style of writing.

This book is one to remember♡
As someone who has struggled with anxiety for years, I cannot begin to explain how relatable this book is! It made me feel seen and understood in a way I never thought possible. It beautifully illustrated what it means to be loved by someone, not in spite of your brokeness, but because of it. Please read!!
