Publisher's summary

Danny Deck - Emma's friend from Terms of Endearment - is a promising young writer losing touch with his talent and drifting from Texas to California because "that's where all the writers are." Set in the early 60s, this is a very funny (and raunchy) satire of life in Texas and California and a true and American portrait of an artist as a young man.

A+ author & A+ narrator

Different from a lot of the work Mcmurtry is known for, yet still the same brilliant character storytelling.

McMurtry Is An Eclectic Writer

The reader was superb, the story was a bit of a downer at times but overall quite entertaining. The reader really brought the characters in the book to life.

Favorite audio book ever

I have listened to this audio book once a year for the last 14 years!! Love the story , I have grown to love the main character Danny! The narrator does an excellent job of making each character come to life. Looking forward to listening to it again next year !!

I can’t believe Larry wrote this

I am a huge McMurtry fan but I hated this book. It had no point and no purpose-terrible
