About this listen

Airship Lies is a steampunk/Western anthology containing five stories from the Age of Wonder, ranging from the Old West to the wilderness beyond the frontier to the very edge of space itself.

Pressure: In a world where men have begun their conquest of space in rickety, steam-powered spaceships called Fultons, a desperate freight crew struggles to make an impossible deadline.

The Leash: A boy gets caught up in a storm and finds himself the unwelcome guest of the pirate crew of the legendary dirigible, the Black Dog.

The Ghost in the Barbershop: Frontier town Muddy Creek has always had more than its fair share of weirdness, but nobody expected a ghost to begin haunting Angus McTavish's barbershop.

Plague Ship: When a raid accidentally brings a nasty virus aboard the pirate airship Coyote, mutinous thoughts surface, and family members face off against each other.

Rabbit Stones: All Gordon wanted to do was explore the wilderness and make maps, but after he is robbed and left for dead, he must decide whether he is the sort of man cut out for revenge.

Loved the voice!

Murdoch does an awesome job with the array of accents and voices in these stories. He is very engaging to listen to.

The stories were enjoyable, but a bit abruptly ended. I would love to hear Ian Healy incorporate them into a larger, full-length steampunk novel. He clearly he as grasp for the workings of airships, but his descriptions were a bit hard to follow for someone who isnt as familiar with them. I would love to see what he could do with character development over a longer stretch.

Overall, I enjoyed the listen!

Very good.

I don't normally pick up stories like this but I enjoyed this book. The narrator was great. I'll look for books from him in the future.

Intriguing first story

The first story, with its detailed descriptions of space travel on Fulton airships, was intriguing. Loved the narrator's ability to accurately speak the accents of the Frenchman, the Russian and the Scot, and portray their culture a bit. Didn't expect the journey to end so horribly, but upon contemplation, many such journeys probably ended in disaster. I think the narration probably saved the other stories, as they are better listened to than read. All in all, it's wonderful to hear a story while I make cinnamon rolls!

Very well done

I usually don't pick up books of short stories but this was a very pleasant surprise. The mix of stories was very well done and the Narrator brought everything to live and gave texture to the world we were travelling through. I will definitely pick up more from both the author and the narrator. I was given a free copy of this audio in return for an unbiased review.
