Acerca de esta escucha

When struggling riverboat captain Abner Marsh receives an offer of partnership from a wealthy aristocrat, he suspects something’s amiss. But when he meets the hauntingly pale, steely-eyed Joshua York, he is certain. For York doesn’t care that the icy winter of 1857 has wiped out all but one of Marsh’s dilapidated fleet. Nor does he care that he won’t earn back his investment in a decade. York has his own reasons for wanting to traverse the powerful Mississippi. And they are to be none of Marsh’s concern - no matter how bizarre, arbitrary, or capricious his actions may prove.

Marsh meant to turn down York’s offer. It was too full of secrets that spelled danger. But the promise of both gold and a grand new boat that could make history crushed his resolve - coupled with the terrible force of York’s mesmerizing gaze. Not until the maiden voyage of his new sidewheeler Fevre Dream would Marsh realize he had joined a mission both more sinister, and perhaps more noble, than his most fantastic nightmare...and mankind’s most impossible dream. Here is the spellbinding tale of a vampire’s quest to unite his race with humanity, of a garrulous riverman’s dream of immortality, and of the undying legends of the steamboat era and a majestic, ancient river.

enjoyed but not as much as GoT

I really enjoyed the characters in the book that were multi layered. I am not a huge vampire fan but I love GRRM. The book was very well written and I would recommend the book but it can't compare to the Song of Ice and Fire series.

Excellent excellent excellent

This is perhaps a little longer than it needed to be and it ends a little more suddenly than I expected, but this was nevertheless a brilliant, brilliant story. It got under my skin, made me believe, and even made me a little misty when it was all over. Vampire fiction is not usually my thing, but this is easily the best one I've ever read.

What other book might you compare Fevre Dream to and why?

None. This is a one of a kind story.

Which scene was your favorite?

Captain Marsh taking his boat out for the first time.

First GRRM

This is my first book by the author I was very impressed with the story and the writing. The narration was excellent! I just found the title by accident looking for a vampire story definitely worse the time and the credit.

great suspense and pacing

Where does Fevre Dream rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I loved the dramatic pacing and descriptions of the Mississippi. I am a fan of Game of Thrones and was hesitant to try this older work of Martin's, but so glad I did. The writing is excellent and the narration smooth with great characterization.

What did you like best about this story?

suspense

What does Ron Donachie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great voices & smooth beautiful voice

Steamboats and Vampires

You'll feel the steam and heat in the wonderful setting of this powerful novel. It is truly frightening as well in places and read by a strong narrator. I recommend it highly

Incredible book with suspense and intrigue

Martin writes a very different book then Game of Thrones. This book from the beginning holds us in suspense beautifully crafted and narrated it weaves in the life of river boats their captains crew, slavery and vampires. It obviously takes place in the 1850’s along the Mississippi River and entwines the life of a scruffy rough river boat captain Abner Marsh and his new partner Joshua York the sophisticated vampire.

Great Vampire Story!

I’m not much for vampire stories, so I went out on a whim and thought why not? George RR Martin is a fantastic storyteller. His descriptions put you back into the 18th century. I loved the character development and it isn’t you’re average vampire story. The narrator was fantastic. Overall, I would highly recommend this story.

Steamboat

I have read many vampire themed novels and this one ranks right up there
with the best of them. George R. 's take on the subject is incredibly original
and does not disappoint. The Ron Donachie narration is perfect for. It.
